re-barreling a rem xp-100

i have a xp that i want to put a new barrel on. the gun has already been rebarrled with a sinclair in 308, so i was thinking of a 22BR.

what do you guys think is the best barrel for the money? i want to get at least a 14" or 15" stainless in as heavy a contour as i can. thanks.

I believe Lilja, for one, offers an XP barrel blank that finishes at 15". It may be cheaper than buying a full barrel blank and only using part of it.

However, you may want to consider a barrel of about 18", a little lighter contour, for the added performance of the 22BR.

The 22BR is an excellent XP round!

The last 22br barrel I put on a XP-100 was from Pac-Nor and it will shoot.
Ordered a 16 twist for the 40 grain Ballistic tips, or any of the custom 40 gr bullets.
Ended up with a 1.250 no taper for a finish length of 18 inches...
I used my .254 nk reamer with a .030 free bore.
I also have a .250 neck reamer, with a .060 freebore for the 75 gr A-max
in the faster twists.

I think I want to keep the legnth at about 15". I do like the lilja barrel idea, but what grove do you recommend? The twist i was thinking of is a 1-10" or a 1-12" so i could shoot the 55gr or even 60gr and still be able to shoot the 40's and 50's.

Most of the "XP-100" blanks you find do not have a heavy contour. Instead, they are designed more for the now outdated IHMSA weight restrictions.

Call any of the top barrel makers and they will set you up with whatever diameter you feel you need.
