Re barrel Savage FTR

The barrel on my 308 is about shot out and I'm considering going with a McGowen pre-fit barrel in 6BRX. While I've swapped out barrels on Savages before I've never done it with a "wildcat" cartridge. What if any challenges can I expect? Also, who makes go, no-go gauges in 6BRX? I was under the impression that PT&G did but I don't see them listed.

Jay: Yes, PTG makes go & no-go gauges for the 6BRX. I know that because when I spec'd. my 6BRX reamer from them I also ordered & received a go-gauge. Cost was the usual $28.

Probably not listed, as they don't get as many calls for them as they do the 6 Dasher, listed in Midway's catalog, page 699.

Since the title of your post has "FTR" in it AND since I didn't see you explicitly state that this rifle was NOT being used for F-TR shooting AND at the risk of stating the obvious...

One particular challenge you can expect is that the 6BRX is not legal for F-TR competition... ;D

it's like how I bought some308 Ammo, had to buy the rifle so the ammo wasn't just sitting around.....need to buy some 300 winmag

I have BRX go/no gauges if you get in a bind. I have loaned them out before with a deposit.
