since I only load for 223 and 6mmbr, I was wondering if the smaller drum usually gives more accurate drops in the 23-32 grain range.

I think it depends on what powder you are using. Works great with ball powders, it sucks with stick powders but most measures do.

all stick, but some are smaller grains like the VV powders. My drops vary about .4-.5 grains. Since the diameter of the metering hole is smaller, I was wondering if anyone tried it and noticed an improvement in the accuracy of the drop

Ball powders always meter much better in any powder measure opposed to stick/extruded powder. Its the way it is...nothing will change it. I find that my Harrells will cut the stick powder a bit better than my RCBS...but will vary several tenths on both.

If you insist utmost accuracy and have to use a powder measure....find a ball powder that will meter well. All stick...throw light and trickle up.

Seriously there is no way around trickling up.Even the powder dispensers have a + or - built into them. You need a good scale and trickler to get it perfect.

yeah Jon, I have all that. The Omega trickler and an FX201 scale. the thing is, I just bought the micrometer adjustment for the measure, not because I expected a difference in accuracy, but only because it looked easier to adjust than the stock metering arrangement. I happened to read that the small metering drum was good up to 50 grains so it would be fine for what I load. I can still return the micrometer knob. Just wondering if the smaller drum can do better than the .5g variation I'm getting.

A baffle in your RCBS Uniflow may help depending on powders thrown.
Don't be surprised when mid reservoir thrown charges are/will be 1/2gr light.

I run the small micrometer barrel to 50 grain charges & large micrometer barrel w/ 50+ grain loadings.

Heck,I hit the large micrometer barrel 6 times to throw charges for the 50BMG's.

VV powders throw amazingly well, ever VV 20V29.

Yes, there is. Get a Chargemaster. I don't even bother to pour stick powders in my Uniflow anymore. The Chargemaster handles the job fantastically with only one or two charges per hundred being 'over' or 'under' when it finishes. I've made the adjustments that have been posted elsewhere in this Forum to both speed it up and also reduce the amount of 'over-throws'.

I've tried several brands of these powder dispensers and come to the conclusion that no matter what brand they all have a + or - they all are never exact. Thats why I just use mine for pistol rounds where I am not too worried if its 6.5 grains or 6.3 grains or 6.7 grains. If I want 8 grains of powder I just set it where I am within .2 or .3 every time of 8 + or -... I have never been able to get them exact.
