rcbs rass

Moving on the seat causes the whole unit to shake. When it first came out there was nothing to set your ammo or rangefinder on. The front support does not work well with a wide forearm. Yes it can change to extreme vertical up/down angles quickly. But when you're actually out in a varmint field you'll find that isn't very important.

The video, link below) stresses how it can swing around 360 degrees and move onto target real-quickly. That's great if you're using it to shoot at stampeding zombies coming from all directions, but again, in the field, you want something that can hold a rear sandbag and your ammo. And for real precision you probably want a separate seat.

I was looking for a bench last year before the ground squirrels needed shooting and what I found was that the RASS was cumbersome.

It was very heavy and had no room for stuff. Stuff like spare boxes of shells or your cleaning kit. I set up in an almond orchard or alfalfa field and need to be able to rotate the bench so the RASS looked like a good deal but the bench space was a deal breaker.

I purchased the Inventive Technology 360° Sharpshooter Bench
Item:XJ-228149 from Cabela's. The only complaint I have about it was the bench top was a little too small so I made a new one out of 3/4" plywood that works great. It doesn't have an elevation adjustment but I pack a couple small pieces of 2x4 to block up one of the legs for the elevation adjustment.

Began a project several months ago building a portable shooting bench. Used a Black & Decker "Workmate" for the base, top is 5/8" thick laminate, 36" front to rear, 20" wide, with a 18" x 4" cutout for shooter clearance. Adjustable seat is seperate from the bench, one of the reasons I do not like the "ready made" benches w/ the seats attached. I have a total of $20 invested,, already had the "Workmate"). Whole thing comes apart and is easily transported in the trunk of my compact car. With scopes of 18x and up, can watch my heartbeat "jump" with the horizontal crosshair, but does not seem to matter. Won a local 300 yd. G'Hog match with a 10 shot group that measured 1.221", using one of my 6BRs: never believed groups that size could be fired from a portable, lightweight bench. Altogether, a good experience.:)
