RCBS pro trim 2 w/ 3 way cutter

Any tips setting It up, had it set for Norma brass but working on lapua now. Having to reset the settings for the lapua. I cant get it dialed wrecked a couple that were trimmed to much.

If the Norma and Lapua brass is the same caliber, which would suggest the same trim-to length, why would you want to change the setting, unless the setting was wrong in the first place.

To set my trim-to length I take a new case and trim it just enough to accomplish the 3 way trimming.

If some cases have been over trimmed, I wouldn’t worry about it. I have over trimmed, and nothing bad happened. Further, years ago I was watching a Super Bowl game while hand trimming my entire lot of Norma 220 Swift cases. I had the trimmer set wrong and I way way over trimmed that brass. Not a little over trimmed, but mucho over trimmed. Well, that was all the brass I had, so I loaded it and shot it. It still went into tiny little groups.

To get best results , I don't Trim until after sizing and using my expander , to get Diameters as close to consistent as possible , thus having consistent chamfer inside & out . If both your case Brands are the same caliber , that should help you . but there may be issue if the thickness of the brass at the neck differs . That will change you chamfer sizing .

Set your Central cutter first , to get your finished length , and then carefully reset the outside chamfer cutter to get the outside chamfer cut .

I got it set and figure out, odd thing my cases on 308 end up 2.04-2.07. Not good enough shot where it will a huge difference. What a pain to trim by hand, new trimer is on the list. Thanks for the advice.

Resizing fired cases before trimming is what I do, but I usually trim new cases unresized. And after a few adjustments to the 3 way trimmer head, I decided to buy a new factory set trimmer head for each caliber. Much less frustration.

I went back to the standard cutter die, more time consuming. Cases on the 3 way weren’t as even.
