RCBS Powder Dispenser Issues

Retired shooter

I have checked the older threads about the electronic powder dispensers, searching for some info.
Hopefully there is newer info available. Using my son's fairly new RCBS lite dispenser ( been used maybe 3 -4 times) I noticed the machine throwing powder all over the wooden bench top. So much for accurate loads in itself let alone making the mess.
Have read about the different dispensing tubes or modifications. From you experienced guys
1. Will using a battery supply help with constant voltage. Does it need it's own designated power source.?
2. Will anti static pad under the dispenser help.
3 Do L E D lights above the dispenser cause any problems.

Have read about the dryer sheets, however still seems to be lots of powder stuck in the powder tray, lots of powder in the funnel.

First time we used it we were impressed, now not so much. Anyone using something of equal cost that is thought to be better, and why.
Any thoughts and or suggestions. Please.

Thank you.

You said it threw it on the bench. Is it splashing out of the pan that comes with it? Mine does that, so I purchased a pan for the RCBS beam scale, it's larger, but still fits. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping that resolves the problem.

I cut a short section of plastic straw, about 1 1/2 in long, then cut length wise parallel to the straw up the straw. about 1/4 to 3/8 in , then made an angle cut to the first cut, (basically like a tooth on a hole saw) Make 3 somewhat equal cuts around the diameter of the straw. the dispenser tube rotates counter clock wise. Let the straw stick out the dispenser tube about 1/4 to 3/8 inch.

Seems to work, keeps powder more contained, and also seems to trickle just a little better, a little more precise. I spill more accidentally, from the funnel and case than the machine throwing powder everywhere. I was loading H335 that stuff was everywhere.
Hope this make sense.
Have good one!

I've had an rcbs charge master for years. Never had powder everywhere all over my table. Sounds like pan problem. Get a deeper pan.

I had a problem with over throws when I first got it and was throwing extruded powder. People used to use the McDonald's plastic straws as a mod. I purchased a brass insert that a guy made and sold on eBay that works great. Google charge master straw mod.
You can also play with throw speed settings.
Good luck.

Thanks to all who have replied
It seems to meter fine, once in a while a tenth off.
Where are the details about the ways to modify the speed settings. Is it possible to have both speed and accuracy.

Thanks again

When it is off by a tenth, it goes back in the hopper, seems to happen while the scale is thinking, a few kernels fall in the pan. H335. Happens less now with some teeth cut into the straw.
Will also find a deeper dispensing pan
Thanks

I have a Lyman Gen 3 and it seems to work just fine. There is a lot of bad opinions out there about it, but I have had good luck with mine.

With the CM, +/- 0.1gn is pretty much normal.

As to adjustments: https://www.accurateshooter.com/gear-reviews/speed-up-your-rcbs-chargemaster/

Note: This was for the CM 1500; don't know if it applies to the other flavors of Charge Masters.

I went to an Autotrickler V4 /A&D FX120i setup. Moved the CM to a closet shelf for now.

Thank you for the reply.
I watch the scale reading every time before I replace the powder scoop to verify the original zero point,
then watch the dispenced weight, and double check the dispenced weight on another scale about every 20 - 25 rounds. As I mentioned before anything over 0.1 goes back in the hopper. Dont happen on a regular basis, but once in a while. Being retired I do not have to be in a big hurry the time it, takes to dispence powder is acceptable to me.
With this being a newer version, RCBS might have the electronic gremlins sorted out.

Everyone have a great day

The display resolution on the 1500 is a tenth, so if all is linear, an on-the money charge may be half a tenth in either direction. I doubt the entire system is linear, though. Mine wasn't, as I verified charges on a scientific scale (which, unfortunately, was a strain gauge model. It's in the closet as well, next to the CM.)

That said, I was pleasantly surprised at how little the scale on the 1500 drifted during a session.
