RCBS Partner Press ?

Maybe not the correct place to ask...
Thinking of adding another press to my bench..Any thoughts
on this little press ? Is it a good purchase ?
Never seen one up close and personal...Thanks for any replies..

It kind of depends on your usage. If your resizing small calibers or using for depriming or bullet seating, they are great. Several fellow shooters use them for such purposes. I recently bought one and have yet to put it to use but seems well built for the price.

Its a really compact and handy press to have. I have one that I mounted on a 1x4x6 oak plate so I can move it around and secure with clamps. I have a bullet pointing die set up in it and it really works great. Like mentioned above, its great for small stuff like PPC, BR, Dashers, etc. A lot of short range guys tote them to the range for load work...

I've had one for years, using it for pistol ammo and "light" duty work only, like decapping primers. Works fine. An RCBS Rockchucker, Made in the USA in 1991 is used for the heavy duty work.

Got fed up with the spent primers coming down the slot cut in the front of the ram, instead of out the small discharge hole on the right side of the ram and into the catch box, so filled up the slot with JB Weld.

Works fine & no more primers laying on the floor. I prime seperately, so have no use for the press mounted priming arm.

Do it! Jackie Schmidt uses three of them.[/i] They were a bit loose but his comment was always that it's the straightness of the dies that really count: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010/07/triumph-in-texas-jackie-schmidt-shoots-0-1118-5-target-agg-at-100-yards-with-30-br-b

Am I missing something? how can this guy shoot a group of .1118 with a 30 cal which is a .308 dia...I read nothing about him using this press...What am I missing here ?

You're missing an understanding of how group sizes are measured and the fact that I know him and have watched him use his partner presses. :)

Essentially a group is measured by measuring from the outside edge of the group to the opposite/farthest side of the group and subtracting out the caliber. a ZERO group .0000" would have all 5 shots going through the exact same hole. .308" minus .308" = .000" group. An AGG is an average of Five, 5-shot groups. :)

I bought one to use next to my coax just as the name implies "partner' press... ;D As other guys have said I think it's great for the smaller operations but I will say I have used it to form some brass just to see if it was capable and it has not let me down. I think you would like it. :)

they are great little presses. and they'll work fine for things far larger than ppc and br cased cartridges. i've used mine with 7 rem mag and 338 Lapua with no problems.

here is a pic of Jackie and his 3 partner press setup at the range.

sorry,I guess I was looking for a report on the press..Hope I did not offend you in anyway,as it was not ment tp do so...

I’m using an even smaller Lee for only punching out primers, FL sizing is on a Big Boss, neck expanding and seating bullets is done on two different Partners. The Partner seems plenty stout enough to handle some sizing of the small and mid-size stuff, maybe overloading it on any larger stuff, and I doubt it’s gonna last long if trying to do hard core forming chores. My setup sorta evolved into the multiple presses thing. I like it that once the dies are all adjusted if I want I can do a single round still warm from firing to back in the chamber ready again without screwing around with any of the dies.

That's them all right. Looks like the Denton [TX] Range. Nice range, nice folks.

If I recall correctly that's Mike Stinnett's home turf/range. Another fantastic story in itself: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/08/mike-stinnett-breaks-the-unbreakable-record-with-0077-group/ :)

There great presses,I have an older one I have had going on nearly 30 years. It is the only press I seat my bullets with. I can feel them when there going in the neck. Joey

After seeing a number of my club members using Partner Presses in Denton TX I bought a used one described as worn out for 30 bucks, I have it screwed to some Aluminum and c-clamp it to the bench for range reloading of 6.5 Creedmoor 260Rem and 308Win, and I used it for pistol loading until I got my Dillon. For short action cartridges it works, for long action and Mag, look for something else.

For the same money (at Midway) you can get a Lee Challenger breech lock press, which allows near-instantaneous swapping of dies pre-adjusted in their collars. Has a nice primer catcher system, too. It is VERY convenient to use, although you do have the slight extra cost of the quick change bushings. I prefer the ones with the built in locking collars rather than using the lock nuts that come with dies, but that's just me.

This happens to be what I've been using as my main press for loading 223 for the last year and a half - I usually get ~0.5 MOA groups at 300 yards. It replaced an older Lee Challenger press that did not have the breech lock system. That older press usually has the RCBS collet bullet puller in it - not that I need it very often, but when I do it's just a couple of feet down the bench.

I have a partner mounted on a 4" x 5" x 1/2" wood block that I clamp to a range brench for reloading away from home. But my case forming is on an old Rock Chucker. Almost everyone has a RC, I think.

My first press, bought used @ a gun show 25-30 years ago. Still got it, and have used it ALOT. It still works as good as the day I got it. For the money it's hard to beat. I' ve loaded everything from 9mm to 300 ultra (it is a little small for the really big mags. but it can be made to work if your not in a big hurry). I now have 7 presses in my load room and still find uses for it regularly. Paul

So far my Partners are only for neck expanding on Sinclair mandrels and for seating bullets. I’m thinking I could neck size anybody, it ought to do fine FL sizing anything evolved from the .222 Remington family, I’m assigning it a maybe OK to FL sizing cases from the .308 Winchester family, but I can’t help but wonder if FL sizing something from the 30-06 family might be taking it a bit beyond the Partner’s capabilities. What do you’ll think, preferably from first hand observation?
