RCBS JR press

The "o-ring" design of this press will assure no spring in the frame which will provide for uniform sizing. If the cartridge will fit then you will have no problems as long as you lube the case properly (suggest Imperial sizing wax) and mount it on a solid table. My best friend size 458 Win cases on mine.

This is one of the best, if not the best single stage presses every built. Mine is over 40 years old and still working fine after loading thousands upon thousands of rounds. It's a shame RCBS quit making it. They 'fixed' something that wasn't broken. Kind of like Leupold who made great scopes for most of us with simple reticle designs. Now they have so many models, reticle choices, different diameters, and big price tags. Something got lost along the way for the average guy. Sorry for venting.

If you try use a lot of lube on the body and clean the die every 5 or 6 rounds so it doesn't get in the shoulder area. The JR is a pretty strong press seeing as it is made of cast steel instead of the modern cheaper stuff made out of powdered burfulgum.LOL

This RCBS Jr. Special Yaller Edition figures pretty big in my press line-up.
I got it for fifteen bucks locally. It was a rust bucket, so I bead blasted it, and painted it with Cat Yellow paint to make it more heavy duty.:p I've done about everything with it, using it now for bullet sizing. Got a couple others of the green type besides my Rockchucker. jd

My RCBS Junior press springs a little, both Rockchuckers a bit less. All the C style presses I've measured spring more.

Use the slipperiest lube possible and springing is mimized. Let the ram stay up a few seconds before pulling the case out of the die and effects of springing are minimized. A .002" spread in full length sized bottleneck cases' headspace is nothing to be concerned about.

Use Redding imperial wax for your case lube.
I have used it for years with good results

My favorite lube is a 50-50 mix of Hoppe's No 9 bore cleaner and STP engine treatment.
Suggest you also explain what all neutralizing steps you take, to eliminate the petroleum risks of your active ingredient. And how uneven the Hoppe's can effect the case neck carbon layers. Thought that old recipe was shunned bad enough years ago do to its problematic effects that nobody used it anymore... Guess not... lol

Lot of old dude's chiming in on this..Mine is stamped on top..76..indicating the year of manufacture..I got mine shortly after that date in time..I've loaded up to the huge 338 Lapua Mag on this one..Mike in Ct

I learned to reload on a RCBS Jr. in 1966 at Warner Springs survival school. I necked down many military 7.62/308 brass to 243. Later after the military I
bought two Jr.s, but a friend had a need for one and I sold it to him. Now that
I have reached the new middle age, I have five Dillons, a Rockchucker, an Ammo
Plant, a Lyman old "C" press and the one lonely Jr. that I still use.
