RCBS Flash Hole Deburr Tool - Game over after ~200 cases ?

Hello,

I wanted to up my reloading game a bit last year, so I bought a RCBS Flash Hole Deburring Tool.

Now, the tool has lost its cutting ability after approx. 200 cases prepared.

I have contacted RCBS on their website, but have you guys heard of anything similar ?

Many thanks in advance,
Pete

1.5hrs after first contact: "New replacement item in the mail, no charge."

One reason to buy RCBS I guess :)

Mine is going on 15 years. Glad they took care of you. Inexpensive tool to replace but...It's the little things a good company does to build and hold their reputation.

I agree, its cheap to replace. But if 200 cases were std lifetime and you guys could point me towards something better....

I'll stick with RCBS and see how the new one does ;)

And thanks for replying.

The cutting edge looks fine. Are all your cases trimmed to the same length and the stop on the flash hole tool set correctly? I have one that has done tens of thousands of cases and still works as it did when it was new

I'm also wondering. It's hard to imagine that cutter is even a little dulled. Have you (OP) felt and examined closely the cutting edges?

I'm wondering, too.
Brass needs trimmed to uniform length before using that tool. Then, the pilot stop is set to index the cutter to same depth on all of the cases. Been using that same tool on the Case Prep Station for years, still works fine...
Regardless, glad to see RCBS took care of you! They are SUPER good about handling stuff like this...kudos!

I found the reason after going back to problem shoot. The tool stopped working from one case to another. So originally I just thought I had ripped the last functional cutting edge off.

However, you can see on the photo that the cutting head/bit was loose inside the "shaft", so it was stationary when it should be turning and cutting.

RCBS has the best customer service out there. I fubared a die, once. My own dumb fault. Called for a new one and almost got into an argument about it. They wouldn't let me pay for it. Nicest folks.

RCBS A-4...bought in the late 70's or early eighties. Could not find the attachment for the shell holder for 45-70 after 20+ years. Called them and they said the Ram style changed many years ago. Sent me the newer style ram....no questions ...no charge.
Typical RCBS service which has been first class since the early 60's. Some run!
