RCBS chargemaster or something else

I have electricians working here on a new building and changing some stuff around in the old one and they hooked up a few breakers wrong and blah blah ran 220 through my 110 charge master and fried it along with some other stuff today. Question is go back with it or is one of the new systems out there better in any way? I got along just fine with my chargemaster but thought I would ask now before I order a new one.

Send it back to RCBS; they'll fix it (probably replace it). If it's not under warranty, may cost $40 or so.

Unless you'd rather weigh them yourself, you have the right machine.

Electrician is replacing everything that fried through his insurance. I was more or less probing for information on the different brands of automatic dispensers. Like I said I like the RCBS and I still have a beam scale too but the chargemaster has spoiled me for ease of use and is accurate enough for my shooting. Hopefully the insurance company won't take the stuff that got screwed up and then I can send it in and fix it and maybe pass it along to someone else. When they are going to buy me new stuff I figure I might as well take and hopefully get the latest version. Mine is a couple years old now anyway.

are you sure it is not just the wall charger that blew? try putting 12v dc to the unit.
the newest company to enter the market does not have a track record yet, so unless you gamble or want to wait go back with the rcbs.

I read the reviews on this board, but the testing seems to date back 3 or 4 years. Lyman has apparently modifyed its DPS 1200 to a third version DPS 1200-3.

So how does its newest developement compare against the venerable RCBS Chargemaster?

rayporter, it could be that simple but I am going to worry about trying to fix it after the fact. Even if it did just mess up the power supply, nothing to say that the rest of the unit won't go bad in a week or so. The electrician's insurance company called today and wanted me to put some prices together for replacement of the items ruined and then went on to tell me that they don't plan to pay full replacement price for these items. They want to depreciate my stuff that worked just fine and now doesn't but I still have to replace them if I want them anymore. My electrician is going to cover the difference anyway or so he said, but I just wonder what a lawyer might be able to do in this situation to get the insurance company to do their part like I think they should.

I think I will just stick with the RCBS instead of being a guinea pig with an unknown unit.

I wouldn't push it, you might find its the Insurance Companies responsibility to fix or replace, at there desecration. Its just like car insurance, its there choice, and your stuff is there equipment if they replace it. They may give it to you, but they dont have to.
Mike.

....and stand strong with them. They are NOT going to do you any favors, they will be trying to minimize there output of cash...at YOUR expense.

Stay with the RCBS...it is better than the Lyman.

i understand.

if you can get a hold of it there likely was no damage.
just a thought if you need to use it.

or if you can keep it compare it to one of the new auto chargers out.

Ray, I use 2 of those 6 volt lantern batteries hooked together to make 12 volts. Works good at those ranges where we cant get electricity. Dont forget to "toot" on your way to Bradenton. Is Buddy going with you? Jerry

i certainly will have buddy [ also will have another pooch ]
they were both perplexed by the dillos at the range. a bunch of laughs.

i can plug the rcbs in to 12v in the trailer but have a 12v rechargable from the toy dept if i need it.

how is the hip doing? i imagine that slowed you down a little.

ya listen close now.

I would go with the RCBS. We have sent several of the Lyman scales back for repair at the store I work at. They seem to have a static issue too. I have not seen or heard about the new Hornady scale. RCBS fixed my scale for $40, out of warranty.

Re: RCBS chargemaster or something else Hurray for RCBS

I ordered a new Chargemaster about the same time I started this thread. I finally got around to finalizing things with the insurance company and I get to keep the stuff that was hurt in the incident which means I have a chargemaster that still works but only needed the new adapter. Yesterday evening I emailed RCBS about purchasing or finding a new adapter, and before 9am my time I had a response saying that they were sending me one at no charge. Hurray for RCBS again. Just wanted to tell the world.

RCBS has provided excellent customer service for as along as I have used their products. I sometimes prefer another company's products for a given operation, but what I use has worked and they support them well.

The attached image shows my RCBS powder trickler, now at 32 years and counting. It still does exactly what it did in 1978.

I've had my RCBS 1500 combo for about 6 months and cannot believe I waited as long as I did to pull the trigger.
Has a few 'minor' quirks, but so do I.
