RCBS Chargemaster 1500

I will be the first to tell you that I am a slow learner. I received my RCBS Chargemaster today after having been reloading for 40 plus years. I measured loads off my culver powder measure, Lyman 55, Dillon, Hornaday LNL, and Quick Measure. None gave me as accurite or as fast of loads as the Charge Master 1500. Where have I been the last 40 years?

Rustystud, You mean to tell me that you found one that would actually work right. Man, This thing I got needs to be in the bottom of the ocean somewhere. It will start off working O K but then it starts drifting and will add more progressively especially if I am weighing for rifle loads. Not so bad with small charges but it still does it's thing. Count yourself lucky because I believe you are about the first person that I have actually heard of that was happy with that thing. Bill

Bill:

I experimented with 4 measurse throwing IMR-4350. I can't think of a harder extruded powder to throw accurately. When I say accurately I mean +/- .05 thats means to me a .1 spread.

I adjusted 4 different measures to throw 45. grains of IMR-4350.

The warmed up RCBS 1500 threw 24 out of 25 within .05

The Quick measure threw 14 out of 25 within .05

The Hornaday LNL threw 10 out of 25 within .1

The Harrels threw 16 out of 24 within .1

All throws were double checked on a beam scale.

The RCBS 1500 was faster than my manually trickling each load with a beam scale.

I will have to spend some time testing to make sure the RCBS 1500 stays calibrated. My first 4 hours of experimentation was positive. I may change how I load long range ammunition. I like the digital read out. I may build a manual trickler and program the RCBS 1500 to throw about a .1 below desired load then trickle by hand to dead nuts on.

Rusty,

I fell the same way. My old Chargsmaster wore out, the keypad went bad. RCBS replaced free of charge, but I was without my Chargsmaster for three weeks..What a pain,,

I think it is the best thing since sliced bread

Well Bill I guess I'm #3. My Chargemaster is GREAT!
Accurate & fast. If you are having trouble you should contact RCBS. I have ALWAYS had great service by RCBS. If some thing broke they replaced it FREE. My Chargemaster drifted due to static electricity after a thunderstorm. I contacted RCBS. They told me to turn it off, wipe it down with a static cloth then try it. That was more than 6 months ago. It has worked fine ever since.

I have had my Chargemaster for three years with no problems. I do use the weights to check it before every use. I wouldn't want to go back to the old way. I have thought about buying a second one for a back up.:D

I gotta add my $.08,inflation). As long as I use the static dryer sheets mine VERY RARELY will drift. Its usually me breathing hard or moving things like seating bullets or bumping the bench with my knees at the same time.

I had a load of problems until I used the sheets and ran pieses thru the tube on a pipe cleaner.

You can use the trickle on the 1500 the same way. Go .2 below desired wait for scale to beep thru and it will come back with correct weight. Just touch trickle watching for clumps. If there is a clump I use a "O" ring pick to nudge 1-2 kernels at a time into pan. Bring to exact weight and you are there.

Well guys I'm sure glad you all are having good luck with that dispenser deal. I feel like mine was wasted money. I like the scales and I been using them forever since they first come out but that dispenser leaves a lot to be desired. I will continue to dip my powder with the spoon because I wind up spending far less time and certainly does not aggrevate me like the dispenser does. Would anybody like to own one cheap? Bill

Rustystud: The next time that you throw charges of H4350 on your 1500 watch the drop tube for large clumps at the completion of each drop. This powder has given me the biggest problems of overruns on the set charge weight of any powder that I have dropped. I'm talking .1to.4 over and all the while the scale lies to you and says the correct weight has been reached. Pick the pan up and reweight it and the truth will then appear. I had a 50% over runs on all charges thrown w/that particular powder. Most other powders do just fine. Your mileage may vary !!!!

Larry:

Discharge the static in your machine and you want have those clumps. Either use static wipes inside and out on your machine or use a Zerostat.
It will make a huge diference. Walmart has the static wipes in the computer section.
