RCBS Chargemaster 1500 Speed Up Instructions

I received the attached Word document from RCBS last week that are the instructions on how to speed up the cycle time on their Chargemaster 1500. I usually follow the rule "if it isn't broke, don't fix it", but I really liked the idea of cutting the powder charge dispense time by 50%, so I called and asked the question "is there ANY chance that adjusting the scale parameters could screw up a good working scale"? Their assurances were comforting, so I used the document they sent me to adjust my scale. IT IS REALLY STRAIGHT FORWARD AND SIMPLE TO FOLLOW. My dispense time decreased by about 50% and the scale still works as before. I'm basically a mechanical idiot and was able to follow these instructions without a problem, so if you were hesitant to try this on your scale, I can only say that if I could do this, I believe anybody could. I think you'll be pleased with your results.

I haven't tried it yet (too chicken to screw it up) but does speeding up the unit tend to give more over-throws or does it work good?

in2deep,

I think the parameters in the document are on the conservative side, so if you use the numbers RCBS suggests, I believe overthrows are a mute point. I actually tweaked the numbers downward to speed up each segment to gain the most speed without getting any overthrows.

I'm glad it worked for you as advertised....we need more companies to provide SIMPLE solutions for the gadgets they produce for reloaders and shooters.

You have to press Enter & Edit at the same time.

Word of caution. Might be a good idea to run through the process and rather than make any changes, write down the default numbers for each and every step as they come up.
There is no "return to default key" so if you make an inadvertent change along the way life could get interesting.

Writing down the default n umbers will at least allow one to both go back to what the unit did out of the box as well as keeping more of your hair. :)

FWIW, I used the tweak that was posted several years ago on the South African shooting site. It showed how to tweak settings for various powder charge ranges so you didn't need to do it when changing from pistol to small rifle to large magnum charges.

Apparently the SA site no longer shows this set of tweaking instructions.
