RCBS BIG MAX A4 PRESS?

I have a RCBS Big Max A4 press that I bought brand new years ago, I have all the stuff that came with the press. My question is how much is it worth? It's very heavy and too big for my reloading needs. Any ideas? Thanks

It's worth $250 minimum and more like $300 normally with all the accessories. A great press. I don't find it too big to even load pistol rounds on. Have had mine since the 80's. One used selling on Ebay now but they don't mention all the accessories that came with the press.

Mine is priceless the best loads I've ever made come from it.

One of the strongest presses made. RCBS has a replacement ram available that eliminates the "multiple clasp" type shell holder which did not work with large rimmed (45-70) brass. Maybe the original Hollywood Senior was stronger but I have had mine since the 80's and it has done everything flawlessly.

I am also very interested in finding a Big Max, do you know if it will load .50 BMG stuff?? Is yours for sale and if so what are you looking to get out of it?? Thank you and you can contact me at mikeh@epud.net

The RCBS Big Max is capable of reloading 50 BMG cases but it requires removing the bushing from the top of the press. The threads with the bushing removed are 1 3/8-12 and requires buying a RCBS 1 3/8-12 50 BMG die set and shellholder. The special die set is more expensive than the standard 1 1/2-12 50 BMG die set. RCBS does have the die sets available but at added cost. You'd almost be better off just getting the 50 BMG AmmoMaster set for loading the 50 BMG. The Big Max was only made from 1982-1988 and has become a rare find and is highly sought after. Don't know why it was discontinued but probably a cost factor. Parts such as the two shellholders are not supposed to be available from RCBS any more as they evidently have ran out of spare parts. I do see that a ram prime unit is still available that looks like it would work on the Big Max. Make sure you get all the parts with the press if you buy one. Will keep mine for the rest of my days.
