RCBS 35-200-FN bullet

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how far back the crimp grove is on the RCBS 35-200-FN bullet? I have some ordered and want to see what case length I might need to trim to.

Thanks, Dale

You do not trim the cases to match a bullet - you trim the cases to standard lengths, and then you seat the bullet so the crimp grove is in the right place (IF you want to crimp)..

Max case length for the 35 Remington is 1.920" Minimum is 1.900". Trim to length is 1.910".

Chamfering will not do it and you will have problems seating the bullet... plus, when you chamfer, you are removing the brass at the mouth that you NEED when you are crimping, so your crimps will be poor. Lyman makes an "M" die specifically for putting a light flair on the case mouth for loading case/lead bullets - GET ONE!!

I load for the 35 Rem, and if you get bored with cast bullets, you might try jacketed pistol bullets (for the 38/357) some time... they are a hoot.

Thanks for the response. I was aware of the case dimensions you mention. I wanted to know how far back the crimp groove was from the end of the RCBS 35-200-FN bullet?

For past 45 years or so I have been loading cast bullets in all my guns, but not this particular bullet. I have shaved cases many times in the past to match a particular bullet. I'm not talking about taking then down an 1/8" just .01 or so.

I have bought new cases that measure 1.89. With my Marlin lever .35, I need to keep COL under 2.56 for it to cycle in the tube and chamber. knowing what the set back on the crimp groove is will help. Dale

Try asking at castboolits.com.

Might also try using .38sp cases to get the oal you want on a specific crimp or lube groove.
