RCBS 1500 issue

I currently have two RCBS 1500 Charge Masters. I had one for three years before it crapped out. I have replaced the first unit and the replacement for the second unit. I had both new units working when one started just running random numbers. I called Don Legg at RCBS and explained what the unit was doing. He suspected a static problem. My loading room temperature was 65 degrees. I warmed the unit up to 72 degrees and it started working again. You figure?
Just thought I would share my findings.

I wish some company would design one of these things that wasn't as fussy and neurotic as my Ex wife... 7 degrees would shut her down too :( :( :( ... I mean, it's not rocket science.

Lyman is on their sixth reiteration and none of these by any maker can be called reliable - when you talk about it, the guys that have them, also have a basket of reasons why it is "not so bad".

I can live with +/- 0.1th and a little drift, with a varmint rifle, but NOT with a match rifle. So it is still throw light and trickle. :( :( :(

Well keep in mind that there are posts like this to give us a heads up, and posts to resolve problems, but few to simply declare no problems at all.
There is some unknown number of users who have had no issues.

I was an early adopter in ChargeMaster, and have never had a single issue. My reloading bench conditions are perfect, I've done a few mods to improve it, and maybe I'm a bit lucky as well, I don't know.

I am one who has had no problems to date. My bench is not perfect. I do have a steel top which has been grounded long before ChargeMasters were made. This is due to the military (long time ago) instilling in my brain the hazards of static electricity and the methods to reduce the chances of what they always referred to as 'stray voltage'. I don't think you can walk further than 10 feet around a fighter and not have a grounding point stuck in the concrete.

My Chargemaster works like a champ. The one time I had a similar problem as that of the original poster, I called RCBS tech support and they also suspected static. They told me to wipe it down with a Laundry dryer anti-static cloth. That was the end of the problem and I now just keep one of those handy to wipe it down with now and again. The "straw trick" or better yet, the small brass insert tube one of the posters here used to sell, also made a very big difference in consistency.
