Sorry I didn't get back with pics Ggmac. Figure I'll just post them here for all to see since my model of rifle is the subject.
So I have probably murdered the collector value, if there is one, as I have made several modifications. But I don't care because I will never sell the rifle and it will stay in the family after I'm gone.
1) I shortened the barrel from 26" to 24" to make it more handy in a vehicle and gave it an 11 degree target crown.
2) I ground a custom trigger shoe to help the felt pull weight as it was originally very heavy and I could only get it down so light. The shoe really does make it feel like a lighter pull.
3) I added scout rifle mounts for using a LER handgun scope, which is what I had on it before the scope you see in the pictures.
4) Also drilled and tapped to add a one piece picatinny scope rail.
5) Added a butt pad for comfort on the shoulder. Might put the steel plate back on.
6) Refinished the stock, but it is due for another refinishing because she's getting a little worse for wear bouncing around in a truck hunting gophers.
7) Bedded the action with Devcon.
8) Ground the top of the ball on the bolt handle flat to help scope clearance.
Anyhow, it shoots like a dream. Here are the pics. The old 6-18×50mm Japanese Tasco target scope is what my grandfather used on it for competitions. Has no internal scope adjustments. Uses the rear scope ring for adjustment. Its a really cool looking scope, but its so big and obnoxious that it really isn't very fun to deal with. The target in the pic is the last time I zeroed it with my 2-7X LER handgun scope. Shot 3 shots at 100 yards to verify impact, the squares on the target are 1 inch. Haven't shot it with the new 4-16X scope that sits on it now.
