Range Time

When working up loads... how much can one plan on doing for a day at the range? For example, would it be unreasonable to try and work up two loads,~20 shots ea load plus foulers) on two different rifles? Two rifles so that one can alternate between the two to try and allow enough time for each one to cool off. Approx temp outside would be 60-70 degrees.

How often should one clean, followed by 2 foulers) when working up a load... and how may that affect the results?

With the question above in mind, what sequence should one use. ie: Alternate rifle every shot... every other shot... every N shots etc..Clean rifle every 5/10/20 shots

thanks,

Jeff

There is no way to know how many shots it will take to find the best load, or how long conditions will be good enough to do this kind of work. If conditions hold, and you have components that happen to agree with the rifles, it should not be a problem. I would load at the range to accelerate the process, and of course shoot over some sort of flags. As to cleaning, that will depend on how smooth the barrels are, and what the powder leaves behind in the barrels. Lower pressures and ball powders tend to foul more. Some barrels shoot their best slightly dirty. That can complicate a load work up.
