Range malfunction!

Was at the local range Saturday. Guy beside me had a new Remington 770 in 7 Mag. He shot a round then while I was loading my 10/22 mag watched him go for number two. It made pffft and white smoke came from the breach area! He starts to eject the shell but I get him stopped!

We let it set for a few minutes and I pulled the bolt. He had no idea how...
Case head was black, blown primer and bullet was still in the case???

No primer flash hole?? Flipped out the primer with my knife and the primer appeared to be inserted in the upside down cup of another primer?? Had the flash hole blocked. It was factory Remington ammo!

Wow! How could you ever anticipate encountering such a situation?
Gives good reason to do closer inspection of even your factory ammo.
Were you able to get photos of that one?
Guess I can say very good it didn't turn out any worse than it did. No injury. No damage.
This certainly raises some good questions about what's going on in their ammo factory.

I don't think you can get 2 primers in 1 hole
I'd rather think that case didn't get punched for a flash hole
You never can be sure of anything with factory ammo

I will post some pics James. That was my first thought, but it was punched through!

With enough automated machine strength you can get any thin soft material in any hole! Surprised it did not ignite at the factory while it was happening...
