Range benches

The shooting range I support in Southern NM is contemplating a build of STEEL benches. I am of the opinion that they will be far to hot even though they will be under cover. Please express your valued opinions in regards to his matter. Thank you to all hands.

Steel alone is just a bad idea IMO. My bench is made with 4x4 steel legs with a concrete top cast onto the legs. It's really about as good a bench design as I've seen anywhere and I can move it if necessary, albeit, some trouble to do so as it weighs about 600lbs. Two jacks with wheels up front and I can let them down and pick up on the rear to "roll" it. Works very well.

I totally agree with the other comments. Steel is going to be hot and slick. You can easily make a very stable and moveable bench with wood. Let alone with wood you can customize it easier if you find there needs to be changes.

If the top of the bench is just going to be steel plate cut out on a plasma table with a centered post holding it up it will ring like a tuning fork.
