TAC did not work for me with heavy bullets. I only use varget with my 80s. Start at 24 and work up. Some lots will go to 25 gr. with very good accuracy.

I also was unimpressed with TAC using 77s. Reloder 15 and Varget however, gave good results with the heavier projectiles in the 223.

tac burns too fast to push the 77s and 80s at high velocities. aa2520 is a better choice, as is varget and reloader 15. also might want to try n-540 and n 550.

What bore? A .223 Remington has a .224" bore, so choose bullets accordingly. RamShot TAC is a stinky powder according to my nose, but it really works well downrange. I think Varget burns too slowly for best .223 Remington results. I've gone so far as to burn H4350 in a .223 Rem with zero recoil and zero acceptance velocitywise. Try Berger 55 grain Target bullets with 24.2 grains of Alliant RL-10x powder and prepare to be amazed accuracywise. Cliffy

Cliffy, i dont know if i should go there, but .224 groove is offered in .218 ,.219 bore?? Also, do you have any info on 70 to 80 grain bullets??

Hi Highlife, no, buddy, I've never fired a bullet heavier than 60 grains from my 1-in-12" twist 22" sporter barrel. I have learned that the slower-burning the powder, the lower the muzzle velocity. RL-15 powder is okay, but slow for my applications. Even in my son's AR-15 with 1-in-9" twist, which he uses in sanctioned competition, I load light loads of RL-10x for his rapidfire events with 55 grain bullets. Explain to me why underbore rifling is used in competition. I am here to learn as well as to tell of my findings. Cliffy

Maybe someone else can chime in to help explain to both of us why, some major barrel makers use a .218 or .219 bore ? Talked to bartlein today they suggested the .218 bore. Then talked to someone else they suggested .219 bore.?

The best powder we have found a" bunch of crazzy canucks"
For 80gr sierra and 80gr Bergers with 1/7 & 1/7.7 twist 28" barrels Hart & Krieger & truflyte is
Varget top load work up slow 80gr at 300y shoot in .5 .6 .7"
5 shot groups.
With the great work Jerry did on loads and barrel lenght tests he did he is right VT 550 is hands down the best powder for 90gr Bergers possibly RL17 ??, we have tested H414, H380,H 4350 Varget, they just don't give you enough speed to shoot 1000y as we shoot in class F/TR .308/155gr & 223 only.
Here is a 3 shot group at 300y yes 300 probably will never happen again Krieger 28" 1.7twist 80gr Bergers.

The reading on calipers is not right, measured them with proper calipers at range the 3 shots where .236" still pretty remarkable at 300y but 3 shots don't count

Tac has worked great for me with 75-80gr bullets. I do use a tight neck fit along with a very light factory crimp. Medium to heavy resistance works best when you use tac powder. As for being dirty I can shoot an 800agg xtc match and a 4x600 mid-range match before I have to clean my upper. To me thats not being too dirty. It works for my application anyway.

I use a .244 bushing and I put a crimp, just enough so I don't have any problems in my RRA AR and the Tac powder works just great and I have no problems in the cleaning department. I shoot rock chucks, whistle pigs all summer and clean my RRA AR just before coyote season. And I'm off and running again. This is my first time for me on doing messages.
