RAD Upgrade?

Spoke to a shooter this weekend at the SWN. He mentioned a "kit" for the RAD that would show how much the device soaked up recoil and a spring kit to optimize the unit. I know the RAD is hydraulic so I'm not sure where the spring would come into play. I'm just wondering if maybe there is anything out there to better tune the RAD recoil device.

Mine doesn't seem to make any difference my other F-Class .284 with a thicker recoil pad actually feels to recoil less.

Probably the former.

I think the adjustable buttpad is beneficial.

I adjust the stock to fit me not the other way atound.

Obviously an adjustable stock can be had for a lot cheaper than the RAD.

Recoil isn’t that bad in a .284Win. The original plan was to try a short magnum for F-Class.

This game is about small improvements. 6 one way half a dozen the other.

there was someone a while back that sold a kit that included different Springs but I cannot find it now does anyone have a link for this

Take the overly heavy spring out of your RAD and go to Ace hardware or your local hardware store and find/buy a selection of softer springs. I believe they are 1/2" diameter. Put them in your RAD and find the one that suits your situation. They are only a buck and a half or so each.

You think maybe its another part in our game thats totally unnecessary and very expensive? Or does it actually serve a good purpose? I suspect a shotgun recoil is a totally different pulse

I can only speak from my experiences, but it makes a noticeable difference on my TR rifle.

I shot an A5/Decelerator combo on Saturday with 175s @ 2700 (just messing around) and was surprised at how much I 'felt it'.

Contrast that with shooting a RAD/XIT/Decelerator combo with 200.20X bullets today @2650, and I was seeing the report from the muzzle each time the rifle fired. Physically I can't even tell I shot a rifle today.

People wouldn't be taking on the weight of them if they weren't effective.

My 2c, but you get what you pay for. :D

Edit: Zombie thread that just got bumped back up...sorry...I'm tired.

^^^

That's what I did. Find a spring with the spring rate that suits your preference. I find the provided springs a little too stiff for a .284 shooting 180/184's at 2800 +/- 10fps. YMMV
