R-33 .300 W M 168 VLD Hntrs.?

I'm tasked with loading up some 300 win mag with R-33 and Berger 168 vld hunters . I know its a 338 L Mag powder but.......Anyone done it with performance results ?

You'll smear carbon all over the bore. That powder has no place in 300wm with 168gr bullets. The only way I'd try it would be with 250gr.

I'm using 33 in 28 nosler with 175gr, 300rum and 230gr and 27 nosler with 170gr bullets. But it is just not a match for 300wm and little 168s.

Also, I just worked up a load for one of my 300wm and 168 Bergers with IMR 4831. Awesome powder for this application and it's usually available when other popular powders aren't.

It's much to slow for 168's.

I've used RL-33 in one of my 300winmags with 240 smk (no longer made). Got excellent velocity and accuracy.

You can probably fill the case up to the neck with RL-33 and seat the 168 gr vldh and still not reach max.

According to Quickload, you'll be reaching near max around 88 -89 gr RL-33 (58,000 - 61,000 psi) with the 168 vldh in the 300winmag... but this is with the burn rate adjusted in Quickload so it matches my 240 smk load's velocity. Thus I made the RL-33 burn rate much Faster in Quickload.

RL-33 settles very nice in the case. So you should have no problem getting 88 gr in there with the 168 on top. But obviously it'll be a compressed load.
