Quickload software????

Can someone please explain to me the advantages/purpose of this software as ive seen a few people mention it just wonderingwhat all the fuss was about?? im quite new to reloading this is why i ask..
thanks

Quickload is a VERY sophisticated software that lets one predict pressures, velocities and the effects of barrel lengths, overall lengths of the cartridges as well as changing to different powders.

I would hazard the opinion that it is not for beginners.

Do a search here and would will find a lot of information about it.

Read our review and "users' manual" start to finish.

We've found that two of the most useful features of Quickload are:

1) It does a good job of predicting velocity change with barrel length and pressure rise/fall with changes to seating depth. This can be very important--especially when you change seating depth.

2) There is a feature which lets you set the desired case-fill ratio and max pressure and then the program will "scan" through all the powder in its database and recommend those that are optimal in terms of fill density and peak velocity. We have used this feature many times to find good recipes for new cartridges.

Thanks for your help the review is just what i was looking for think i will be making a purchase v.soon as loading for a few calibers at a time would be nice to be going in the right general direction.

I consider my reloading days "pre-QuickLoad" as the Dark Ages.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but using QL and Chris Long's OBT table, I've not run across a rifle yet that I haven't been able to quickly develop a good load for......usually trying only one powder and bullet weight/type in the process.

The price is cheap compared to the time, effort, and components I've saved over the past three years of using it.

As stated previously, it's liable to be a real handful for beginning reloaders,I don't recommend they even try it, honestly), and the learning curve is a bit steep......but it's a gem of a product.

I got this from the Quickload website:

JMS Arms, Merrivale, London Road, Handcross, West Sussex, RH17 6BA, England, Phone: 01444 400126

Hope this helps

Can I get some info from someone who has quickload?

I have a new project gun in 223 that my son and I are playing with that has a longer than normal barrel length, something the smith, barrel maker and I talked about and figured to give it a try.
I can give specs via e-mail.
I just wanted to see if I was on the right track using my Sierra reloading data book although I will be shooting Bergers I also have speer and Hornady books and also looked at hodgedon web site as reference for starting points.

my work e-mail is
sdreese@stpegs.com
or home e-mail is
s.reese65@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance.

I have ~50 load books that don't get used anymore.

I find my start point with Quickload.
I write up a range report with velocities and accuracy.
The co relation between predicted velocity and pressure are very good with bottle necked cartridges not touching the lands.

The prediction is better for jammed into the lands if start pressure is manually moved up from 2,000 psi to 8,000 psi.

The prediction is bad for bulk powder. I got a lot # of surplus bulk IMR4895 that is so fast, the H322 constants entered into the canned Quickload library will match the pressure and velocity results.

The prediction for overloaded straight wall pistol cartridges is very poor. The 1,000,000 psi 2,500 fps never happens. What happens is a big fire ball of unburned powder.

Some bullets in the Quickload library do not have a length entered. One must measure the length of the bullet and enter it manually.

Some powders are not in the Quicklaod library. IMR800X-HiShokr is one that I have. The old guy selling Quickload in the USA, at NECO, says that is becuase that powder varies too much.

I have found that 22-250, 243, 257 Roberts Ackley Improved, 6.5x55mm Swede, 270 Win, 7x57mm Mauser, 308Win, 30-06, and 8x57mm Mauser all have the same case head and all have the same max pressure for long brass life, 62,000 psi.
I could also test 250 Sav, 300 Sav, and 35 Whelen, but I think I already see the pattern, the Mauser case head with large Boxer primer is all the same, despite the difference in SAAMI registered max average pressure.

I have QuickDesign and QuickLoad V 3.4 on a Windows XP computer. I get what is currently on QuickDesign into QuickLoad by going to the QuickLoad "File" menu and clicking on "Retrieve data from QuickDESIGN". Another menu will pop up with "qdesign.qmt" highlighted under the heading "Filename".
The cartridge in QuickDESIGN appears in QuickLOAD after I click "OK" in the top right hand corner of this menu. There may be other ways to do it, but that works for me.

I would hate to tell you how long it took me to figure it out instead of just asking a question on this site as any sensible person would do. This is a great place to get answers.
