Quickload request Please. .260 Rem with 120 TTSX

Got a new .260 I worked a decent hunting load for. Interested to see if the load has much more room, becaue there is zero pressure signs, but I'm having trouble finding .260 TTSX and H4350 data. If someone could give me an estimated velocity and maybe a max charge weight as well for this it would be mucho appreciated.

Barrel Length is 20"

My load is 6.5 120 Grain TTSX
Winchester .243 Brass Sized to .260
Fed Match primers
45.5 grains H4350
OAL of 2.772" which is .055 off lands

You are missing one very important measurement, maximum case capacity of H2O at case length.

Using generic from QL it says 68.5K PSI and 110% filling! Do you hear any crunching when seating the bullet? :o

No, it is not compressed. There isn't any crunching on the press stroke, and the rounds still "rattle" just a bit when shaken.

On the Hodgdon load site it lists a 120 with 46.5 grains H4350 as max with a 58200 psi rating and 2960fps @ 2.780" which is right where I'm at lenth wise. Should the TTSX make that much more pressure with one less grain of powder?

I load 44.5 gr of H4350 with 142 sierra and can feel the bullet just touch the powder. With your 120's you don't have much more room, but you can just work your way up slowly watching for pressure signs. Hodgdon's site gets up into compressed loads for the 260. I've shot some compressed loads with 4831sc and no problems.

no it does not list the Barnes by name, and that is why I started a couple of grains below the max of 46.5 for the 120 they listed and worked up. If it is not compressed, and there are no signs of pressure...no sticky bolt, flattened primers, or ejector marks, should it be safe at the 45.5? The load shoots well, but I'm not really interested in flirting with the dangerous side of this stuff. Just for interest sake, what velocity did the quickload calculation give for this? that could be a good sign if it is overloaded or not?

I don't have QL, but if you don't have any pressure signs than it appears to be safe. Just remember this is in cooler temps. Pressure will change during the warmer summer months. I was just stating that I don't get any pressure signs with 44.5 gr behind a 142 sierra, and can shoot that load all summer long. So I would believe your load to be safe.

Thanks Ringostar. And it was 60 degrees here while I was working this load the other day. It is stricktly going to be a deer hunting load, so the 60 degrees is way on the upper end of the temp spectrum for this one. I will be developing another load for 120 grain nosler ballistic tips that will be used for plinking/coyotes/etc

Quickload says you are filling 110% and excess pressure over 8000 PSI. Barnes manual has only has tsx bt. they recomend 39.5 to 43.5 . ttxs are longer plus your seating them.026 extra myself being on the safe side 43.gr near max 20''barrel 2774 fps .Good Shooting Larry
