Quickload powder modifications

I use Quickload often and still haven't gotten around the lack of accuracy in the powder data files.
I have modified the file for RL-17 to make one load come out close, but if I change the load 1 gr, it is way off. I am also trying to fine tune Varget. I can get close with MV but pressure is way high.

Anyone know of proper data mods?

Give us all the imfo as per what you have, what gun ,caliber, type of chamber etc.

I use QuickLoad for my 6BRX with Varget. My chamber is reamed to Mr. Kiff's best for 105-107 bullets. 28" barrel and Savage PTA. I put the bullets 0.010" into the lands, use hBN and my load is 33.8gr. About 3050fps. Enough to do quite well in Sundays Sloughhouse 1000 BR meet. Water volume is 40.45gr

I also have been working on 7X57 loads for my "new" hunting rifle built in my garage. It has a M98 7X57 military barrel cut to 24". I have been trying to design loads for 140 gr BT, 162 gr Match and 175 gr spitzers. I have been using RL-17 because QuickLoad told me to! I have used Prvi Partizan and Winchester cases, both with different water volumn, 62.4 for Prvi and 59 for Winchester. After I learned to load way longer than the loading manuals say, I have the match bullets shooting 1 MOA at 100yd.

I am close to a match on the 6BR but pressure is too high I think. And I can get the 7X57 to match at one load, like 48gr in WIN cases with 140 gr bullets, but change load to 48.5 gr and MV does not track?

Call Neco @ 707-747-0897 and order the Data Update released this past June. It cost me 21 bucks and i was told the RL-17 data was way off when they first introduced it into the QL files. Plus the new update has all the Berger Hybrid bullets included. I just got my disc the other day and will upload it by the weekend. Super people who will bend over backwards to help out!

I also shoot 6 BRX with Varget and and currently shooting 33.6 gr, at 1.770 into the lands, I shot a 3 shot group of .235, but I shot 33.8 with better results but I was concerned about pressure. a little on the primer. I would appreciate it if you could share your results.
Thanks, Bob

Chris Long (techshooter) did a nice writeup on tuning QL to track your results at the chronograph:

Bill,

No, I have been using 1450 psi start pressure for in the lands and hBN friction modifier.
I would like to hear any info you have.

If you hover your mouse over the Shot Start Pressure box, it tells you to add 7200 psi for bullets seated in the lands.

Jaychris, thanks for the link, that was some great information. Did some experimenting and got a file now that matches my actual chronograph data, case vol, barrel length, etc. and allows me to keep weighting factor and shot start speed in the proper ranges. Much appreciated, the more I use this program, the more it amazes me.
