Quickload install problem - "Cannot rename temporary file. The file could not be installed"

Been using QL for quite a few years but my computer crashed recently and so I have to do a reinstall of QL. This is an older version - V.3.8.0.2 and running under Win10.

The software starts to install and then under "QuickLOAD Setup" I get a message that says
Cannot rename temporay file. The file could not be installed". that stops the install and goes nowhere.

Anyone run into this and have a fix?

I haven't had the same trouble, but maybe this will work. Go to the Quickload folders, find the .tmp files and delete them. This assumes you're re-installing on a drive with residual clutter from the previous installation. If it's a new computer and first-time installation, disregard. I've had great technical support from them before. Time zones and this being a Saturday might not even delay the response.

Thanks for replying - much appreciated!

The image I used to replace my OS did not have QL on it as I did not load QL before I saved the image the last time I did it. The original image was from a fresh OS and before QL again was reloaded. I was hoping to be better this time and not forget to load QL before I store the new image...

I have gone in and located the QL subfolder and deleted everything before I retried but no luck.

Searching the web I came up with a couple of techniques that was supposed to fix this problem (yes, apparently it is a known problem). However trying to run it as an admin (I already was) made no difference. Doing the Ctrl-Alt-Delete and deleting the install under task manager also did not help.

Yes, I will probably call them on Monday and try to get this fixed.

I cant get mine to load with Windows 11. What are you using. Tommy Mc

You will need to log in with an account that has admin privileges. Then try installing it again.

OK, I got it working so thanks a bunch for all the suggestions epecially from xr650orRider.

A couple of things:

1) If you go through the install and have the error message and the install fails, as indicated above, you MUST use MS "File Explorer" to get rid of ALL Quickload files. I thought i got it all but I did not.

2) When I started the install again, when you get to the screen where it ask if you want an incon put on your desktop you MUST untick this option. I have read somewhere that this is where it tries but fails because the OS does not allow this. When I untick this option, the install went through 100% and did not even come up with the error message i.e. so I did not have to do the CTRL-ALT-DELETE business.

Thanks again guys.

Just a FYI, Quickload also works fine on Windows 11. I've got it on 3 machines, 1 that meets the Windows 11 hardware requirements and 2 that do not. My version of QL is 3.9.

That's weird. User accounts absolutely have privileges to the desktop folder. If they didn't, you wouldn't be able to drop a file there.

It's registering the icon with the operating system that causes the security restriction. Otherwise malware could link itself to any icon on the desktop.

Not to hijack but how did you get around the hardware requirements?. I have 1 the processor fails. i cant get around it

I've installed it (upgrade install, leaves all settings and files intact) and works fine on a laptop that is at least 12 years old, one that is 8 years old, desktop that is 14 years old. I've only used the method that starts around 16:40 in the video.
