Using your data and the default weighting factor of 0.5, Quickload predicts 52.8Gr's of Rl-23 would give you an Avg. velocity of 2729 with a chamber pressure of 49,620 psi. Barrel time of 1.561ms I assumed that you weren't into the rifeling so the default shot start pressure of 3626psi was also used . If this is not correct please let me know as I can adjust for being into the lands. 52.78 would be prediction to actually match your chronographed speed. Please remember these are estimations, your actual tests with these charges will most likely be different but they should be in the ballpark.

The biggest problem I see with this load is that the powder will be completely burned at 17.4 inches down the barrel, that seems pretty inefficient to me.

I use RL23 with 180 hybrids, 180 eldms and 175 eldx. It shoots incredibly well. Based on my experience with it and checking loads with Quickload, the Ba in QL is off substantially for RL23. I get 2830 out of a 27-inch barrel a couple of grains lower than what QL says you will need. It is worth the try though.

I'm sure it shoots well, it just isn't the optimum powder for an efficient production of energy over the barrel length. One of the indicators that I look at in QuickLoad as a reference for potentially accurate loads is maximized with the load so I'd definitely try it out.

I had a problem with a rifle that kept producing velocities of 100 to 200 fps faster than the manuals or QuickLoad predicted, I found that the chamber was cut short.

you are correct. Im loading .025 off the lands
RL 23 has given me better ES and a little tighter groups then either IMR4451 or H4831SC but i havent streched it out in a 600 yd match yet.A five shot group yesterday yielded a 2728 average and an ES of 12. Two other groups were very close in size but without the Magneto speed attached.
My reason for the quick load help is that even at these low velocitys and (apparently) low pressures im getting clickers and rubbing/ejector marks on the case head. ? Honestly im at a loss. Maybe my die is not sizing the base enough or I have an issue with the chamber.
I dont care about speed, I would like to get to the bottom of this. If Ya’ll think I should start a new thread and we can go from there I dont have a problem with that. In the mean time I have plenty of data to answer any questions you have for me. And thanks for all the help, you guys are great. E
