Quickload data for 450 Nitro Express

I would very much appreciate if someone with QL could provide data on a 405gr Rem jacketed with RL-15 in the 450 N.E. 3 1/4.

My guess is that the median should be somewhere in the 83gr range.

Thank you in advance.

Michael

According to QL, at 3.95 COL, 83gr of RL-15 pushing the 405 Rem SP is undercharged. By the time you case fill up to even 80%, you;re looking at 91gr and a pretty stout 2200fps. Just doesn't feel like a good matchup but I have no experience with that big of a straight wall caliber. Way out of my league. IMR 4350 seems like it heading in the wrong direction. An 80% fill is a softer 2000fps but you'll be throwing 18% of it out the barrel unburned. You may do better asking around the Nitro Express Forum

First of all, thank you for taking the time to look into this for me. No worries on the "undercharge". It is very common in the big bore cases to use RL-15 under a filler of some type. I was just looking for QL's projections on charge wt, pressure and estimated pressure.
Thank you again.

Pardon the typo. Charge wt, estimated pressure and estimated velocity, that is.

.450 Nitro Express... now that's what you call a man's gun! Would love to hear more about what you're shooting this in. A double rifle?

To add to what has already been noted, and give you an idea of where the upper end lies...

94.0 / RL-15 = 2408 fps / 39751 psi (CIP max = 44236). Case fill of 82-83%. Percentage powder burnt 97-98%.

103.0 / IMR-4350 = 2362 / 38557. Case fill of 91%. Percentage powder burnt 91-92%.

Both of those are with an OAL of 3.950 and case capacity of 136 gr. Neither is your great-granddaddy's old cordite load!

To give you an idea of how various other powders might stack up, here is a partial propellant chart, centered around the burn rates of RL-15 and IMR-4350 and maxing out at 98% case fill...

Thank you all for the great data. Actually, this is for a double rifle that I've been building. In the absence of finding a good supply of Swift 400's, my intention is to regulate this one to the 405gr Rem jacketed, of which I've been able to gather up a good supply. I have cut the extractor mortise this weekend and have been rough fitting the extractor plate. I hope to be proofing early in Feb.
