My quickload computer is down for a bit, and I'd like a calc. Check please: I'm looking at loads for my 20" 223 wylde using the 77 Sierra at 2.260" col.

My brass volume is 29.8gr H2O.

I'm looking for obt loads to work up to/around, for N140 and/or imr8208.

Obts I'm looking for are:
0.924, 1.026, 1.095

Thank you!

Mac,
Should get you in the ball park quick.
BT-.924 close to 69,000 psi.

XBR BT of 1.026 =22.58gns @ 54,136 PSI
BT of 1.095 =21.5 gns @46.847 PSI

N-140 BT of 1.095 =22.18gns. @46,809 PSI
BT of 1.026 =23.26gns. @54,303 PSI

Be glad to help you in any other way if you need.

Regards

Mark

Thank you! Verified why I'm nowhere near where I want to be.

You won't find a good OCW at such low PSI, which will more than trump imagined OBT.
Gonna need a better M-O-U-S-E plan :D

Ha-ha mouse plan. I think 55k psi is max for 223 right?

55Kpsi is SAAMI
62.3Kpsi as also available in QL is more realistic.
You also need complete fill% with the fastest viable powder(for the bullet) to get it. You need best primer & best striking of it. Best seating depth, regardless of load.
You can't tune a gun from a computer.

Exactly, but the computer can tell me if I'm way off base, so I've got a direction to go. There are a ton of variables, and we certainly don't have a single method that gets best loads, otherwise.this site would be small. I will say to others that.read this thread, best to stick within SAAMI pressures, and as usual the loader/shooter assumes all risk. Pressures mentioned in this thread really are dependent on what chamber your rifle has.

mac, well stated.

Mac,
Unless you can provide a velocity with a known charge weight for those two powders, any numbers people report can possibly be way, way off. In my hands, the factory preset burn rates for various powders in .223 Rem aren't even close. You might get some solid data on where to look for the charge window, then again it might not even be close, wasting a lot of your time/effort/components.If you have any velocity data with either of those powders, post it up and I'll run the numbers for you. That would be a better way to go IMO than hoping you'll get some numbers that are actually anywhere close without some kind of velocity/burn rate calibration for your setup.

Thank you, but I'm just.looking for a direction. My last known good load.of varget 23.6gr was 2650fps, but the next lot doesn't perform. I have n140 and 8208xbr to test, but haven't tried yet. The Quickload data above shows that it's worth the effort. After all, a 223 barrel doesn't shoot out as quickly as say a 243... I'll get some info on my lots, but ill bet that I'll get around to fixing my computer by then.
