In a recent thread about suppressors a new member alluded to some system of ordering the parts and building your own can legally and used the term"Quickie Form 1 and Kit.." Anybody else know anything about this? John

The kits are often sold as "solvent traps". Only threaded for a muzzle but no holes through baffles or end caps. The user buys the kit, applies for form 1 suppressor, and upon approval drills holes in the baffles and endcap. Voila. Suppressor.

One such supplier.

I have done it. The form 1 is like a form 4 but it is to manufacturer your own NFA item. You can buy a tube and baffles not yet drilled, apply for your tax stamp with a form 1 and then drill the holes yourself once your tax stamp is approved and your tube is correctly engraved.

they work, but IMO unless you’re trying to beat a timeline just buy a real can from a reputable manufacturer. It will work better, fit and finish will be much better and will have a warranty. I had mine recored by ECCO machine so that it’s now very good. But in the end wish I had just bought a good can to begin with, that is what I have done ever since.

The benefit of a form 1 is that you can E-file it (on line). Seems to be much quicker than a mail in form 1 or mail in form 4.
