Quick range sesson for the FA

Had a bit of time and decided to take the FA 252 down and set the scope. Wanted to set the bubble level and tracking it to make sure it was right before our yearly get together (Chili fest) on News Year Day at the range. That will be it's debut and wanted it to be somewhat close to being on when others try it out. I figured the top of a FA gun is machined flat, I made the mount flat and cut out the inlet to fit down in the FA topstrap and using feeler gauges in between the mount and the scope. I've never had to readjust the scope for tracking using this method but always like to check and make sure. Used the verticle line on the cardboard target to line up the reticle then set the bubble.

Set up my cardboard at 50 yards for the scope alignment and tracking. Had a previous somewhat close 50 yard zero on steel targets but hadn't checked it on paper yet. Got it all aligned and set the turrets to zero and decided to fire 5 shots to get get an idea how it was grouping.

Scope is only a 16x and with the black line on the target the crosshairs nearly disappeared with it being so dark and overcast today. Didn't see the first shot so figured it had to be in one of the lines somewhere, Gun was cold, ammo was cold and I was cold but decided to keep going and check it out after 5 shots then reset things from there if needed. After checking the target I did come up .1 or 1 click for elevation then reset Zero.

I'm thinking the first shot is the high slightly left one in the black line. I could see a thin line start appearing as I shot the other shots but overall I don't think that is too bad for it's first time on paper with no sighters and cold bore shot included.

Tried to get a picture of the gun and target to show distance for any nonbelievers but really don't care either way. Not benchrest accuracy but it has potential and should get better as I find how it likes to be held, rested and shot. Handguns in general are really picky about how the grip is supported and revolvers even more so. Target racks start at 25 yards, then 37 yards and my cardboard was at the 50 yard line.

Ammo was Wolf MT, temp was in the high 30's with a slight left to right wind. I ran a bunch of steel out thru 197 yards and kept adjusting my data in StreLoc to try and get numbers to match up with real data. Then realized I hadn't changed the bc. It was .586 or something like that. Changed it to .140 and data came in within a click or two of being right on with real hit data.

A buddy, DaleT thought I should give Tac 22 a try but it doen't seem to like it. It's quite a bit tighter going in the chamber although the Wolf MT has to be slightly pushed also but not nearly as hard. It shot well but not as good as the Wolf. More range time in better weather will give me a better idea of what it likes.

I did take both kids down to get a group picture and hope that maybe they might have some little snub nosed babies that would grow up to be long range contenders but time will tell.

Just sitting and watching the sun set together over their domain.

There I've done it, actually shot some paper. Not as much fun as steel but was a necessary evil for testing purposes. They say paper don't lie but neither does a swinging target with a nice center mass hit at distance. Did run my top row of steel plates at 197 yards which are 10", 9", 8", 7" 6" and also the 5" on the bottom row before a miss. Darn wind picked up slightly and pushed me off at 3 o'oclock. Always next time.

This was also posted on a rimfire site but thought it might be of interest to others that haven't pursued rimfire accuracy.
