I'm going to be doing a ladder test tomorrow and was wondering where do you guys see pressure signs. its a 6x47L berger 105gr. VLD and RL 17. I'm thinking that 39.5+ might start to get hot but would like some input prior to loading them up.

Thanks!

Shooting R 17 & 105 Berger VLD's I pierced a primer @ 39.6 on tuesday and there was cratering on the other 2 in that charge weight.

I got a real small .240 3 shot group @ 100 yds last sunday @ 38.1 the 37.8, 38.1 and 38.4 groups were all tight vertically. Back to tuesday I was trying to duplicate the 38.1 load and tried 38.0 and 38.2 as well. I couldn't get anything to group under .5 @ 100 so I shot them @ 500 the 38.0 was 4" 38.1 was 2" and the 38.2 group was 7/8 of an inch.

I'm not a huge R17 fan I went through the same thing with my 6.5 Creedmoor, a few good groups here and there but overall consistency was hard to come by. I still have 2 or 3 pounds of it though so I always try new rifles with it.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. RL's have never been my go to (ever) but I've tried them in all of my guns mainly because so many others seem to like it/have good luck with it. Thanks for the load data, also have you used H4350? thats the other powder that I'm using tomorrow (and hoping that it shoots it well).

I've got a set of 105 AMAX's loaded with h4350 on the bench now and just picked up another 200 105 Bergers I'm going to load a set with h4350 tonight also. The h4350 was way more consistent in my 6.5 Creedmoor after I gave up on the reloder 17. Unfortunately business & family commitments will keep me from testing them until next week.

Let me know how it shoots.

Will do, thanks again for the info. For some reason (maybe I give up too soon) but I normally wind up with a Hodgdon powder and berger bullets so we will see if this follows suit. I'll post results over the weekend.
