questions about 22-243

Hello,
I been think about putting together another rifle. Seen 22-243 on the list of cartridges. Tried to find information not much found. Would like to know what kind of accuracy can be expected,barrel life and any additional information you would like to share. Wanting to use as a target rifle at local clubs out to 500 yds. Already have a 22-250,243,and 6br. Thought I would try the 22-243 for something different. Interest in shooting the 75 and 80 gr bullets.

Love experimentation: Hate disappointment. A .243 Winchester with a 6mm bullet is DIFFICULT to beat accuracywise. A .243 Winchester case houses enough powder to disintegrate many .224' diameter bullets in mid-air. A .223 Remington is the perfect blend of speed, accuracy, and conviction for precision varmint loads. A .243 Winchester was developed as a DEER caliber FIRST and a varmint load SECOND. Playing games with minor cartridge/chamber modifications will not make a GENUINE .243 Winchester caliber much less or more than it is: perfection for its designed usage. cliffy

I've got one and love it. They are real popular in this part of the country. The ultimate in a coyote gun. I'm using mine for ukd shoots also. Just get you a barrel 1/8' twist. Some 80gr. Bergers. Lapua brass and get after it.

I picked one up with low rounds,70) that was built on a trued PSS 700SA action/stock with a Brux 28' 1-8 barrel. Price was less than the cost of the components so what the heck. This rifle shoots 75-80gr'ers into one hole with fireforming loads with the Amax's. Feeds from the mag and all it required for dies was a bushing for my 243 FL die and a Hornady 220SWift seater, both of which I already had. Out to 400yds it's made a ton of one shot kills on feral pigs, it's probably the simplest wildcat I've every owned to form and load. Downside is there is basically nothing on it anywhere as most guys shoot the Middlestead. For load data I just started on the low end of the Middlestead data and worked up. One trip to the range with a couple of powders and I had my own data for my rifle. As for barrel life I'm only at 240rnds, it's just not a rifle you take a bunch of shots through. Of the 240,previous owners 70 and my 170) only about 70 have been at live varmints,pigs)and it definitely leaves a smile on your face. But that is to be expected when a 75gr amax at 3600fps hits a pig,
