Question regarding load development

Son and I shooting my 22-250 Savage at the range yesterday. We both shot .7 moa 5 shot groups at 200 yds. Then I mounted my Magnetospeed to the barrel and shot 5 to get velocity information. The Magnetospeed shifted the POI from 5-6:00 to 1:00, and group size dropped to .38 moa. and forming two small groups of overlapping holes about 1/2 inch apart. I presume the Magnetospeed is acting as a barrel tuner, but what does this say about my load development, I mean beside it needs some improvement?

Savage M12 action with target accutrigger, 28" X-caliber, 8 twist match SS barrel, Richards Micro Fit thumbhole laminate stock shooting off bags. Load is Lapua brass, FL sized on RCBS competition die, cci 200, 35.3 g H-4350, Sierra 80g SMK jumped .017. Run out less than .001

Ave velocity 3184, SD 12, ES 29

I have only used a magnetospeed a couple of times, results were the same as yours.
What it tells you about your load; you can get a bit more out of it, a tuner is an easy way to do that, playing with seating depth and neck tension is where I would start.

Looking back at my load records, I see that I developed the powder charge first, and seat depth second.
And since that time, I have changed that process to developing seating depth first, and charge second. So it's back to square one on this load...

Thanks for jogging the ol' gray matter, Mulligan. Maybe I'll finally get this Berger to shoot better than the 105 A-Max I started with.

Ok, brain fart again. 22-250 is not using a 105 A-Max.

So here's a range report: Shot the 80 gr. SMK at 200 yds yesterday to re-develop the seat depth and found .020 off was by far the best. Narrow seat range though. .015 and .025 off shot not nearly as well. .2 moa vs .45 moa.

Sounds like my 22-250 ....I found a good powder charge with seating depth set at 5 thou off the lands to start.
when I went out again to work on seating depth only.... I found that I got the tightest groups at 15 thousands
off the lands. It's sometimes amazing what seating depth alone can do for accuracy.

Sound like the added weight changed the gun harmonies to where you have a better tune .

My wind flags are the bushes, trees, grass, butterflies, dust raised from the 100 yd berm, anything airborne. And indeed, it does help to pay attention to the conditions, and wait for a lull. Even mirage, I am noticing, comes and goes, albeit it is probably "going" because a wind is pushing it out. Someday I"ll figure out that scenario.

Don't be afraid to mention a skill I need to further develop if this isn't the best method, but I wait to take my shot with both eyes open behind the scope, focusing with my left eye down range at the brush. I try not to raise my head off the stock during the 5 shot group, and take the shot when I feel conditions are similar. Is that kinda, sorta similar to what is meant by learning to read the flags?

I do suscribe to the tuner philosophy, in fact own a cheapie limb saver dereasonator. Tried it once on my 223 and doggone it, it did do the trick. I'll check out the RAS tuners. I am certain a much better one than what I have is in my future.
