Question on wind Coach for SBN

We just lost our wind Coach for medical reasons. We are looking for a replacement. We have a couple of possible coaches but if the worse happens do we have to have a coach to compete. My question is about the team rules and do team competitions REQUIRE a 5th person to call wind holds. Could the two on the mound Coach each other and still be legal to the rules?

Thanks in advance

What we used to do with 4 people was have the main 'coach' shoot first, with someone coaching/assisting him. Another person check-scoring, and one pulling.

After the 'coach' is done shooting, he swaps with the guy on the spotting scope... and stays put the rest of the yardage. Everyone else rotates, but the coach stays on the scope as much as possible.

Back before the big 6-8 member '4-man' teams, that's how most teams did it.

Only 4 shooters are required - you do not have to have a wind coach. You can do as Monte says above and it works fine. We usually hire a puller so that leaves the entire team on the line. Remember - one of you has to score for an adjacent team.

Same order of business for Team Berger/SEB/Bartlein, many a time; except we had one person coach two shooters (one of them to be an upcoming coach), and one for the other two shooters (one of them being a previous coach). Has certainly worked well for us in the past!

If the 4 of you have an interest in more team shoots in the future, there is another option. Since this match is a Palma course on Thursday, you could all take turns coaching at the 800 yd line. It's a great learning experience. Then if one tends to shine over others, they become the coach for the remaining yardages.

We only had 4 last year, but its more work for the coach as he has to do a lot. It is easier if you have 5 guys. That said, we did all right last year! Even beat our last years range record. Gonna have 5 this year.

We try to get a score keeper to help us so we don't have to swap that job and have the extra man to verify our scores as well. This usually involved sweet talking a wife by one of the guys and will cost you dinner at least. Lol

Yeah, at Perry the team is 8 people in the NTT match as two are target pullers. 6 firing members and that allows ample time to provide a scorer to the right and one can coach the pairs firing. With the typical 4 person team 1 ca pull, one score next door, and one coach the pair and be coached by one of them also.
I love team matches and as a long time shooter, coach, and team captain I have shot some of my best when I was challenged with keeping up with two shooters and both rifles - that may shot very differently. Do you use a Coach's Plotting sheet? It plots the shooter's call, the shot placement, the dope he had on at the time and helps predict the next shot . Intense and a real challenge when everyone is counting on you to do your best.
