Question on changing barrels?

A friend of mine has a brand new F-Class gun, built on a Nesika action with a 6.5x284 Broughton barrel. The barrel is really a shooter, but as you know the 6.5 has a relatively short barrel life. He wants to chamber a new barrel in a 6br to shoot on calm days at 600 and 1000 yards and save the 6.5 for days when the wind is really a factor.

My question is can these two barrels be switched repeatedly without any loss of accuracy?

Thanks,
Chuck

Short answer to your Q is yes. Short range benchrest shooters do it all the time. The barrel needs to be properly headspaced, of course, and screwed on only tight enough so that a benchrest type vise and wrench can be used.

The other comments in your post re: barrel wear, wind deflection, etc are open for discussion but since you didn't ask, I won't go there.

Chuck,
I have several barels that I change on my 2 Nesika's all the time. I usually get 2 or 3 barrels done at a time and save the best shooter for big matches and use the others at local matches

No problem at all.
I switch barrels on my Ram-Pro action between a 6br, and a 243 AI
a lot of times with no loss in accuracy.....

Boys,
Thanks for your responses, My friend and I shot a 1000 yard match this weekend in Oak Ridge, TN. On the first relay the wind was a bitch, he still shot a 195,I think).

On the second and third relays he shot 200-13X and 200-14X, this was the first time this gun was shot. He wants to save the 6.5 barrel for the big matches and use a br or dasher on the no wind days.

I have a new 8 twist Broughton that I don't need right now, so I am going to sell it to him.

Thanks again,

Chuck
