question on annealed brass

I'm shooting a factory bolt Savage 223 and alway's neck size with Lee collet die. Just started annealing the brass for the first time and after neck sizing noticed they are hard to chamber. Seem's like the round goes in fine until about half way then I really have to force it to chamber. Does brass grow after the annealing process ? Measured with caliper and the fired cases measure's 1-2 thousanth's smaller than the unfired annealed case's. Chamber fine after FL sizing. Would rather just neck size. Can anyone give me a idea what is happening ? Am I doing something wrong with the annealing ? Thank's for any help.

I am by no means an expert. A friend had some brass annealed and the gentlemen that did the annealing told him to resize the brass after he got it back. I believe this is due to the fact that the annnealling process stress relieves the brass somewhat. I hope someone with more experience will chime in.

I personally would most definitely FL size my brass after annealing it!

I didnt take it as you trying to be smart, nor was i. Im my mind when it is time to anneal brass its like starting fresh. I want my brass to expand out to match the chamber on the first firing. When i buy new brass i always run it through a FL size die, so i do the same after i anneal my brass as well. I dont neck size anything anyway. If you buy good dies that dont over work your brass there no need to just neck size, because im moving my brass very very little when i Fl size it. All im doing is sizing the neck and setting the shoulder back about .0015 and maybe sizing the web area .0005 Very little movement. No need to buy another die that only does the neck. Im terrible at discribbing what im thinking but i hope you get the picture of what im trying to share with you. Its all about the fun and relaxation anyway. do what you want to do and enjoy! Thanks Lee

I like the Harrell's line of fl size dies. there not necessarily custom but they are the next thing to it. You take 3 fired cases and send them to harrells and they match the case to the die they think is best suited for the cases with the least amount of brass working or over working. Send me a pm if you need any more info, i would be glad to try and help. Thanks Lee
