Question on 22 centerfire

Looking to build next 22 cf...Want opinion or experience with 220 Russian using 224 bullet vs using 22 PPC..Starting from scratch so equipment is not in the question...Not interested in PPC short ..Too much work..I have equipment from an earlier 222 project that never got up to club competition level....Low grade European receiver...Will the 220 case outperform the 222???
Thanks for looking...LT

Are you dead-set on the russian case? The 22br is pretty darn cool! And yes I believe the 22ppc will out perform the 222. Especially if your varmint hunting with it. The 222 wont come anywhere close to the velocity of the ppc if thats a factor in your decsion.

The 220 Russian/ Beggs whatever you call it is a similar capacity to that of a 22PPC -.175". I know feeding will be an achilies heel, know that one too well. As for the comparison to the 222 the PPC has the capacity of the 223. I feel that the PPC is good if it could feed it would be great. I wouldn't steer clear of the PPC but only in Single Shot rifles.

I will be doing short range bench with a single shot action..We shoot 2 BR targets and give points according to group size..Then 3 targets with bonus points inside the top score ring... Bonus ring is .400 dia...Shot must not TOUCH the ring for it to count..A 6mm has <0.157 divided by 2 clearance...224 has o.176 tolerance....Out of a possible 15 points you will need 5 to stay in the running...More to win.. We shoot thse targets two times monthly with center fire at 100 yds(range limit) and two times monthly with rimfire at 75 yards...Just redneck fun..

Have you considered a 20 VarTarg? Might be a real winner in that game. Use brass from Adam Bentley; he makes BR quality 20 VT brass from new LC 223 at a very reasonable price. Just something a little different to consider.

You might consider building a strait 223 rem or possibly a AI these 224 cal are a all together different beast than the 222 rem when you put on a 1/7 to 1/7.8 or 8 twist they just seem never to amaze me shooting 80 & 90gr bullets.
At 300y they outshine the 22 250 big time when they use 55gr bullets and can run right with the 6BRs higher BCs of the 224 just work well. and well worked lapua brass
Shot this Aug 15 at 300y I know its only 3 shots but on good days we can keep 5 shot groups under .750 smallest 5 shot was .520" and many .600s.
And shooting f class at 900m shot 15 bulls and 12 where V bulls on a ICFRA F class 1/2 face using 90gr.
in sanctioned F class shoots guys with the 223 are shooting
15 v bulls at 300y and I have seen 14 v bulls at 600y
I know I will never shoot another group like this again but i am rather confident on a good day sub 1/2" could be doable
Rifle is a Barnard action ed with a Tru Flite 1/7 twist at 30" Robertson stock reamer was made by JGS with long throat for the 80 & 90Gr Bergers
