Question for the stock painters

I have a walnut stock I will be painting and picked up a couple cans of Rustoleum gloss enamel in the exact color I want. I have the correct primers for it, but my question is can I use Spraymax 2K clear over the solvent based enamel color coat? I have access to a drying box (like a giant food dehydrator) I can put the stock in to help speed up the out gassing and curing, but I also have no issues letting it sit for weeks of needed.

I know, ideally I should get automotive paint color matched and use that, but I have these cans and would like to use them if I can.

Ya could've just text me.
Paint the stock n let it dry good.
Test sand the masking tape to see if it powders when sanded. If so your good.
Scuff stock with a grey or white scotch brite.
Clear away.
Or...
Use the krylon as reactive targets, and get base coat in spraymax cans.

I use a high-build primer first on wood stocks getting painted...unless you like the look of wood grain showing through...

I have high build primer, this stock needs some massaging with shape before I get to painting, though.

Don't want to derail this thread too far, but do the 2k primers work for grain sealing/filling? I have an old birch stock that needs rejuvination.

Yes but you still might to fill some larger pores with putty,
I always prime twice.

Good question and totally relevant to anyone wanting to rattlecan a stock.

Something to keep in mind when you do your stock. Your color is a 1k product the solvents in the clear will bite your ground color.
Spray more, lighter "tac" coats versus getting it wet on your 1st coat.

Duly noted. I also plan to bake the color coat as well as let it sit for a couple weeks before spraying clear.

Getting the wood hot, will cause air bubbles from the pores.
I get them warm but not hot.

Yeah, I've dealt with that finishing with varnish on bright work on concours quality boats. I would always apply varnish in the evening (cooling trend) But, I have access to a drying box, which gets up to 105° max and an enamel paint would only need 3 hours in there to be fully cured. I figure 2 hours and a week out of the box would fully out gas any solvents remaining.

Bc’z on point. For a wood stock- fill the pours/wood grain first. Use bondo body filler or all purpose filler for any corrections. If your rattle canning your project- you can do this with a cheap high build sanding primer from auto parts store. It’s grey. 2-3 hours and it sands right down. Over that, you can use a coat of black sandable primer as a sanding coat to check for pinholes ect... allow it to dry 3 hours. Hit it with 2 coats of spray max 2k primer.
1k color- don’t use forced heat/direct sunshine or anything that dries the surface faster. It traps gass off. Just allow it to dry. Like Bc’z has mentioned before - test sand the color on the tape. When it powders up, it’s ready for clear. Spraymax 2k clear. Comes in gloss, satin and matte finish.
