Question for the BR shooters

A club member was selling some rifles for a deceased friend. I purchased an older BR rifle and the caliber is unknown. On the bottom of the barrel was a name Boyles and Bushnell 22 45S. Do these numbers mean anything to any of you?? I am sure its 22 caliber. I plan on doing a cast of the chamber but will probably rechamber to a more popular caliber if possible. Thanks!

Found a bit more info about the caliber. What I have gathered, its a shortened 222 case ( probably .180) with a 45 degree shoulder. Hence-22 45S. It was an old BR round in the late 70's early 80's. Does this help?

Might want to ask over on Benchrest Central. Lots of old timers over there. I remember the cartridge but never owned or shot one.

Just a bit of info. Had a few 22-45's they were all 222mag cases with the shoulder blown to 45deg.
The "S" was for a tight neck. Two of the guns I had belonged to the gentleman who improved the case
originally. Also had a couple that were 222"S". Just a 222 tight neck. Hope this info is useful and not
confusing.
That's what 22 45s means to me.

one-shot, I cut the neck off a 222 mag. It will almost chamber, but the bolt won't close. Maybe I need to shove the shoulder back some more??? All the info helps, thanks. Going to pull the barrel and cast the chamber this week-end, the suspense is killing me.

We would push the shoulder back a bit before firing it. The 222mag don't fit in the 22-45 chamber unless you push the shoulder back. We actually had a die with the 45deg shoulder that we would use before firing. I am sure I have 22-45 brass around if you wanted a piece just for looking at? But not for firing purposes!
You would probably be surprised at the accuracy the 22-45. It was one of the first wildcat/benchrest
cartridges I owned. I had shot it a lot and it was a lot of fun to shoot.

one-shot-your a wealth of info. I'd love a piece of brass if you don't mind. Also, whats the possibility of getting dies? I called L.E. Wilson and talked to a lady and she pretty much told me I was S.O.L. Do you think dies are still floating around and could be purchased?
Thanks-Bill

Not a wealth of info! I have done alot of shooting with a lot of diff calibers. Nice to be able to share some of it and not just have it rot in my head. Sent you a pm.
