Question: Bottom Metal and Detachable Magazines for Rem 700

6and7mm

I may need a 12 step program to break this hobby

For a Remington 700 type action, in a repeater configuration, are there any GOOD bottom metal options that allow to use 1) the same BDL floor plate cut out, without modifications, and 2) allow for use of AI and AI type magazines.

I want to avoid the Howa solution, as it is a plastic composite solution.

Thanks

There are several different quality aftermarket magwells that will fit with M700 and specifically fit AIC magazines, such as Badger Ordnance. You will most likely need to do some inletting. For a DBM setup you not only have the thickness of a internal magwell plus thickness of magazine walls plus a some clearance space for the mags... so some minor inletting.

Accurate Mag
I have Accurate Mag, however they required inletting in the stock. Do they have a version I am not aware of that does NOT require inletting for the bottom metal?

I think the answer to your question is no. But it would be great if there was a no-modification BM solution that accommodated the magazines you list. You may find that it's less expensive to buy a stock (or chassis) that has the magazine provision built in, than trying to retro-fit a stock. For example, the KRG Bravo.

Mine was pretty darn close to a BDL inlet. I did have to do a little in letting work but I just assumed that was due to tolerance stacking.

Now that I think about it the one I have came off of a factory Remington 338 Lapua. Perhaps the factory Remington ones are different and closer to a BDL inlet.

I agree with NateHaler. If you buy a stock or chassis that has a DBM, you solve your problem and get a much better rifle package as well. I run the XLR Element in 2 rifles, but there are many options.

Among other things I have one of the (don't laugh) Kwik Klip conversions underneath a Bighorn SR3 long action with a 6.5 Savage take off barrel and it feeds from the magazine flawlessly (probably due to the Bighorn action) and you wouldn't believe how low the profile is. Yes it's a sheet metal thing, no it isn't a beautifully machined work of art, but if it was going hunting it would be very comfortable to carry one handed in front of the trigger guard. I have other bottom metals and magazines, but for a trim, sleek, look it can't be beat. Why doesn't anyone make this with their beautiful machining capabilities, I know there are SOME foot mounted hunters out there, right?
