Question about Starline Brass

Other than the primer size from LRP to SRP is there anything different in their 308win brass from their standard offering to their Match brass? is there a real difference? or just a different stamping?

Cant answer your question, but I have been using Starline SRP brass for my 6.5 and 6 Creedmoor rifle for over 6 years now..

Love the brass for durability. I will shoot about 500-700 rounds a year each caliber. I have reloaded this brass about 50 times (no joke) each and started getting neck splits until I annealed the brass and trimmed it.

Since it is difficult to get I have 200 new rounds under the bench right now.

When I started using it I weighed the first 200 case and found very little weight difference.

The small rifle primer pockets hold up really good to. I use a hand primer and can feel when a primer pocket is getting large, but maybe only about 2% have a issue.

Great brass if you can find it.

The extra cost is about $35 bucks, no big deal, for $293 dollars for 500 pieces of their Match brass vs $227 for their standard brass, biggest reason I purchased the Match brass was to keep the cases separated by head stamp from my other SL 308win brass so I can use them only for the use of my NM M1a, $293 for the SL brass is still price wise cheaper than the ALFA brass I use in my bolt guns at $595 for 500 pieces,

I would just about bet the only difference is the size of the primer used and the headstamp offering.
Like something being called tactical, some like the Match print and a different size of primer.

Bill your probably right, Conaso, I have ALFA and LAPUA brass, I use it for my Precision bolt guns, I'm not going to purchase expensive brass to shoot from my NM M1A, you may only get 5 reloads from the piece of brass before its deemed unsafe from these types of rifles, IMO, YMMV

I agree. I have a Stag Varminter 5.56mm NATO that I use for more precise shooting. I bought 1000 pieces of Federal Premium Lake City 5.56 NATO brass before they lost the contract. I couldn't pass up the price. All my other ARs get once-fired range brass that I happen upon or purchased. They were all primer crimped and sealed. When I'm bored, I swaged the primer pockets and clean them up. I run them until 8 reloads and then dump them regardless of condition.

I with you! I just decided to just use 223rem brass, my ARs are 1&8 WYLDE chambers, removing primer pocket crimps is a PITA! and to time consuming! so if I'm going to buy brass it's gonna be 223rem!

Having recently got hold of a bag of new Starline .308 SRP's, I took a bunch of measurements to see how the dimentional data compared with my other more expensive good brass. Because they come in a bulk pack bag, sure enough, there were a few with dented case mouths. More troubling is that the cases showed the case mouths heavily peened and all of them had substantial burrs, both on the inside and outside. Further inspection of the 10 I selected revealed 3 of the 10 had visible burrs on the interior side of the flash hole. Therefore, before doing any loading, these cases need a little work, like even having to deburr the flash holes (I use 21st Century tool for that) before measuing the web thickness.

One of the things I see in the data is that web thickness is substantially thicker than the other brass and the case walls are a little thinner resulting is an average case weight not much different than the other brands. But, there was substantial variation. Certainly, that thicker case web must help with keeping primer pockets firm with heavy loads.

I'll be loading these 10 case up to fire form them and then measure volume, and see if I might get performance out of this virgin brass like I did with Alpha (I doubt it, but who knows ).

Nice work.

I use starline 556. I am very happy with the quality and price. I too found the case mouth needed a little clean up. I set 250 up in loading blocks and looked in with a flashlight. Only a couple had burrs. My k&m tool will not fit inside of the unfired neck. I will have to fire them all before I can uniform the flash holes. I FLS them, mandrel, chamfer and deburr. They shoot awesome about .5 moa random load and blem vmax.

I would call and ask the difference. They picked up when I called about my 1000 pieces of 556 on backorder.
