Question about something Similar to a rail gun rest

I had someone come into the store today looking for something similar to a rail gun one piece rest but they want it to lock down a full rifle. Imagine a rail gun rest that mounts a stocked rifle and holds it in a locked down position. They're not looking for a lead sled, they want something more in the precision manner. I looked for a few hours and I've just about wrote it off that no one makes a such animal. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Darrin

How about a rail gun modified to clamp either the action or the size barrel that’s on his rifle?

My guess is that the answer will be that it’s too expensive and/or too much trouble. Therein lies the rub.

I believe a gun has to move to shoot. If you lock it down, it will effect accuracy. Even the machine rests at Sierra move and return to battery. Some guys in unlimited short range have made return systems for their rail guns but they still move. Matt

Hyskore makes a rifle test that will lock the rifle down. I can’t attest to the quality though

+1 for the Hyskore return-to-battery rig. Has the ability to clamp onto the bench and has gas pistons that allow recoil movement and return to battery. Uses a hydraulic trigger actuator. Somewhere in the $250 range price wise as I recall. Have witnessed a 300 Weatherby Mag. being tested on one with success. One does want to verify the sight picture after each shot and obviously will not work well on a flimsy bench. Ours are concrete with a decent foundation.

You can make a rifle shoot huge groups by locking it down like strapping it into a lead sled just like you can make a rail gun shoot huge by stopping it too soon. And a railgun or similar system goes for $1500 plus- is he willing to go that far? I have a pappas rest for my 22 and id guess thats about as close as hes gonna get to a railgun type system that will still shoot good

That sounds like a good option right there.
