Question about Remington 700 ejector

I was wondering if it is OK to totally remove the ejector plunger and spring out of my 700 bolt. I have trimmed the spring once already and it still throws the fired cases pretty far, and I am also believing that the ejector is pushing my loaded round sideways in my rifle when bolt is closed. I am just looking to experiment later today and see if it helps group sizes without the ejector and spring.

By all means, take that darn thing out. Took mine out 1200 rounds ago. I don't get any brass flow in mine. I shoot mild loads.

Frank: I've taken several of mine out, the only ones that remain are the lightweight, walking around varmint models. I also have never seen any problems with brass flow, but also shoot the "little" ctgs.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I took the spring out and put plunger/ejector back in along with pin. Head of plunger is below surface of bolt face and looks good. This is in my 6XC new build and rifle may have a little more pressure than little cartridges.

I trimmed the spring in my .308 SPS varmint as I was looking for the empties to just "flop" out onto a towel on the bench. Well, on the second trim I took too much and the empties turn 90 deg. in the action and sit in the port with the case mouth out. Turns out, it works OK!

It's not what I really am looking for, so I'll buy several springs and experiment some more for that perfect "flop" on the bench, but the way it is now, I can live with it.

I found that when I completely removed the ejector spring, the case was extracted and remained captured by the extractor. I then had to go into the port with a finger and pluck the case out. Not what I wanted.

Question for you.......what does your rifle do with the empty with the ejector spring removed? Just curious how yours behaves compared to mine.

Jerry, I did not fire my rifle yet without the spring, but was playing with it last nite and the empty case would just lay there after opening bolt. The extractor had let go of it upon opening bolt. I'll run it thru its paces tomm. nite at the range.
