I've been mucking about with a wildcat idea which is essentially a shortened .284W. If it works the final iteration will be a shortened .284 Shehane.
Phase one was to trim down a F/L .284W die and form some cases, pushing the shoulder back 0.225"
I had a bunch of well used .284W brass in a mix of brands given to me for testing.
Hornady, Lapua and Winchester brass all had problems with creases appearing in the new shoulder (what was previously the sidewall).
However the 2 pieces of Norma brass that I had both formed perfectly.
Is Norma brass somehow different (thinner, softer?) than the other brands or was it just dumb luck and pure co-incidence that it worked where the other brands failed?
