Question: 30x44 Cartridge

6and7mm

I may need a 12 step program to break this hobby

Can a few competition shooting veterans please provide some answers/advice?

1) How hard is it to make this brass?
2) What do you suggest as the best parent cartridge for forming?
3) Can this be converted to a 30x47 with ease just by going in with a 30x47 reamer, would it require cutting off the threads and starting over?
Thanks.

1st thing to do would be to do a chamber cast to see exactly what you have. There's several variations of 30x44 and 30x47 reamers/chambers out there. You'll need to know neck dimension too.

Easiest way would be to use 300 Savage brass, push the shoulder back, and trim to 44mm.

Again, depending on reamer specs, a 47 reamer might work.

Thank you. That makes sense.
Please keep the answers coming in.

I have a 30x47 designed off of the 300 Savage case. To make cases out of 300 Savage I just run them into the full length size die and I have my case. To make them out of 308 Win cases I first trim the case down a bit, can't remember and don't have measurement at hand, then run them through the FL die and check length and trim if needed. Like has been said there were a few different dimension chamberings with the 30x44 and 47s. The rifle that I have I got it cheap in an estate sale. Fellow that died had a bunch of odd stuff. The rifle that I got was a Ruger tang safety 77. Some paper work that came with it showed that it originally was a bull barrel varmint 26" in 220 Swift. Barrel was sent off and re-bored to 30 cal with a 12" twist and chambered in 30x47 HBR cut to 24". It has the original wood stock that it has been set in bisanight (sp?) and has a Canjar trigger. The fellow was going to use it in Hunter Class Bench Rest using cast bullets. Rifle had only been shot about 100 rounds with cast bullets when the man has a heart attack and dies. It came with dies and 100 cases made from WW 300 Savage and 50 made from Fed. match 308. This rifle is just scary accurate with about anything you want to shoot through it. I have killed a good number of deer with it over the years using mainly Nosler 125 Ballistic Tips running them about 2850 fps with IMR 4895. BANG FLOP

Now in French countrie we are using the 6.5x47 Lapua open to 30 of course you need a different reamer by the way we have the benefit
of the small primer!;)
