Quality of LC 308 brass

I have read that Lapua brass is the best but very expensive. WW is also reported to be of good quality.

I recently bought 300 new unprimed LC 308 cases from MidSouth for $30 per hundred. They appear to vary about 2-3 grs in weight.

IS IT WORTH MY TIME TO WEIGHT AND GROUP BRASS IN GROUPS THAT VARY NO MORE THAN 1 GR??

I realize that that would not make it premium brass but would the accuracy be improved that much over just using random weight brass?

This will used for cast bullet loads and general plinking loads, but I would like to achieve best accuracy possible with in reasonable limits.

Let me have your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Centex Bill

LC brass is an excellent choice for gas guns, thick and tough! From my experience the case/neck wall thickness is pretty bad compared to Lapua. If you have enough, you may be able to sort enough that are decent. For plinking loads they would be fine, but for serious shooting you may find them lacking. I would imagine from what you have said, they would be acceptable. It all depends upon your accuracy requirements.

LC brass is very thick and very heavy like 20gr heavier than WW. I use it for my hunting loads. If you are loading 308s for run and gun tactical stuff where you cant police brass shoot it and let it fall, it was cheap.

If you are running it to try to shoot F class the lack of capacity will kill you. You can load 47gr of Varget in a WW case and still seat a 155 to mag length w/o compressing, put 47gr in a LC case and I don't think you can get the bullet in it. Lapua is somewhere in between the two.

I run WW over Lapua for the capacity.
