Going to sell my SA government model and either get a different model or get a Colt. I know Colts had their issues. I'd still like a Colt but I would get a SA if the quality is better.

Yeah I have my first 1911 I purchased in the 70s--I wish I could get another one as good of quality as it but prolly not. Wishful thinking I guess.. I think Colt does make a series 70.. I have a SS Springfield the first SS 1911 I have had and I want to replace it with a Carbon Steel one if that's the right description. I will look seriously at SAs lineup. ThanksI have 1911 45s in both Colt in Series 70 and others from Springfield
My money today will go to Springfield long before Colt unless I happen on another 70 at a good price. I didn't know Colt was making non-80s in their lineup, maybe they are, but none of the Springfield's are.
The RO is nice, but I personally think there are options other than the RO that are pretty nice in the Springfield lineup, and I'm planning to add at least one more.
As it is my latest 45 is an XDM. My first high cap 45.
I think Kimber is living on their rep from 2000
I like the looks of that RO. I will check it out more ThanksI have always been a Colt 1911 guy, still have a handful, all .45 ACP. But, the Sprgfld RO has really garnered some good ink in the last 5+ years. Our club "gunsmith" says he built one for an Aussie iirc...Maybe fuzzy on the Aussie part but I saw it shoot several X ring size groups at 50 yds, std BE tgt from a Ransom Rest before he shipped it. He did a trigger job on it and loaded the ammo.....
If I had a grand to plunk down while looking for the best buck bang with accuracy and reliability, I'd be at the SA counter. It seems they may have upped the ante with a newer, better package. I haven't checked for some time.
Ok I will ThanksBefore you spend your money, definitely look seriously at the Kimbers.WD
I'm not gonna pay retail for any of them.. I didn't think about the Dan Wesson. I will look into them thanksROs are nice. Couldn't bring myself to pay retail for one though. Picked up one in 9mm from another in state, another forum member, for a very fair price. Very nice trigger, runs and runs, with no issues; very accurate.
I wouldn't mind trying the Colt Competition; but I wouldn't pay retail for one. Guess I'll wait until one happens along used if I ever buy one.
If you are set between those two mfrs, pick one and go.
If you are flexible, I'd look closely at Dan Wesson. They are a step up from SA and Colt, unless it's something out of the custom shop.

I think I have a series 80 Gold Cup. I'll have to look at that ThanksAny new Colt 1911 will be a Series 80, which I can live without. Kimbers' quality has fallen drastically. When the first started, the were very nice, now, not so much. Mass production canceled out the "very nice" part. Which leaves the Springfield Armory. For an "off the shelf" they are hard to beat.
You love the Colt or Ruger? Most people I've talked to are happy with their Rugers. Investment cast frame but all made in US I think. Something to think about. ThanksColt makes a series 70 and I just bought one. Also have a Ruger SR11911 also series 70.
Really love it. A lot of my friends shoot Ruger SR1911's in competition.
I'll check it out thanksDan Wesson Valor.......and don't look back.
And if I had? When i saw the title of this thread.. it only made me think.. "what if he had asked about the quality between S&W and Kimber"![]()

Between the 2 you discuss, recommend to RO. I have both and others and would without doubt choose the RO over a similar priced Colt.
I'll add to some of the advice given. Dan Wesson 1911s are a very good value. You get a lot of pistol for the price. Kimber quality has dropped off significantly. I've owned three (two 1911s and one rifle) that are from the NY factory and all have gone back for repair shortly after purchase and have since been sold. If someone gave me a Kimber 1911 I would use it for a range gun only and would never use it as a carry gun.
