Anyone out there who can tutor me by phone at a mutually convenient time with this software..It is very difficult to set up and was translated from German and the instructions that come with the chrono are less than intelligible..PM me:

Here is a QUICK START "cheat sheet" I prepared. This doesn't explain all the features of the software but it should get you running. It's real important you have the port ID set correctly:

PVM-21 Chronograph Quick Set-UP Guide – Standalone USE

SET-UP UNIT
1. Place the PVM-21 Yellow Sensor Unit on a tripod at least 10 feet from the muzzle of a centerfire rifle.
Six,6) feet is adequate for a rimfire rifle.

2. Set your rifle securely on sandbags or one-piece rest. Bore-sight the rifle on the center of your target.

3. Align the Sensor Unit so the bullet travels between the red horizontal lines on the front of the Sensor Unit.

4. Attach the long cable, ethernet) from the Yellow Sensor Unit to the White Display Unit. Make sure all cables are seated firmly.,See diagram next page).

5. Place the power cord into the center jack of the White Display Unit. Make sure the red light on the power plug unit is active.

AUTO FUNCTION CHECK
6. After power is supplied to the PVM-21, the unit automatically does a self-test and calibration. This is indicated by the blinking light on the front of the White Display Unit. The PVM-21 will then display firmware version and then display the previously selected measurement.

The PVM-21 is now ready for measurement. The LCD display will read "IR Done"

SET PARAMETERS with Remote Control
7. Press F1 to set the bullet weight. Press Up or Down Arrow and select "GRAINS", then "OK".

8. Use the X key to delete the last value,if necessary). Hit the X key multiple times until "INVALID" appears. Then use the number keys to input the current bullet weight. Press "OK" when you have the right value.

For example, if previous value was "168", and new value is "42", hit X key three times. Then push 4 and 2, followed by the "OK" key.

9. Press F2 to Confirm the Gain. You want high gain for small diameter bullets. Use 95% gain for 22 caliber, 85% for 6mm, and 80% for 6.5mm.

[To change the Gain, use the Up/Down keys, but you only need to do this when changing calibers. If you are shooting the same size bullets, ignore STEP 9.]

10. Press F3 to Set Output. Use the Up/Down keys to select "FT/SEC" and hit OK.
[If the unit displays FT/SEC when you press F2, just hit OK.]

11. Press F5 to Number the Series. Clear existing number with X key until "INVALID" appears. Then use number keys to set a series number 0-99. For simplicity, don't use Zero. Use a number from 1 to 20.

If you don't change the series, the PVM-21 will continue to add shots to the existing series, up to a total of 250 shots.

FIRE YOUR SHOTS,White Unit should say "IR Done")

Thanks, but I got that far without assistance. It is the software string database setup that I cannot crack. I am no computer genius. The mechanics I conquered..the rest is conquering me. Seems like I have an expensive paperweight at present. Keep up the suggestions and the help.

I know this may not be what you needed but you don't need to create databases to use the unit. You can just use the "single test" option.

If that won't suffice, try "Create New Series."

Unfortunately, the way the database is organized is kind of upside down,if I recall). I told the designer it should be simply assigned to a particular gun, then you should be able to assign a chron read-out to a bullet/powder recipe. That's not how the database is organize.

I wish I could be of more help. You might give Ed Dillon at Neconos a call. He probably knows as much as anyone in No. America.
