You can use other mandrel for checker, not turner. Pumpkin Turner mandrel is specially cut (shaft and base are off center).
If I remember correctly from when I checked it the neck turner mandrel in the lathe it gives you .010 of movement. The stem that the neck goes on is ground eccentric to the base.
Thank you, that is very useful info. I knew about the eccentricity piece and for some reason thought the tool itself was drilled eccentrically to the mandrel, of course an eccentric mandrel makes much more sense. I guess that flat where the fixating screw goes indexes it to the upper piece of the tool consistently so that turning the piece from the first tick mark moves the mandrel closer. Thanks again.
